"The location is very affordable and allows for relatively easy access to bigger cities (4-5 hours by car). The program is improving and I expect it will continue to get better over the coming years."

"I have no cons for Maxwell -- the alumni network is super strong, the professors make you their priority -- what other reasons are there for attending graduate school?"

"Newhouse has a competitive curriculum and an outstanding faculty. Our teachers have real life experience and worked in some of the top stations across the country. I have all he resources to succeed. The only con is the city of Syracuse outside of the university. It can be dangerous and there is not much to do in the city."

"Well. I have learned a lot. Which is usually what you want out of a grad program. However, the level of favoritism and discrimination is emotionally draining; along with the ridiculous workload. Supervisors have been known to laugh in your face (head down at desk) if they think your idea is "stupid." The attitudes of most supervisors and faculty is pompous and degrading. A big "plus" that attracts students to the school is the opportunity to go home for your second semester extern. However, whether or not you have the grades, it all depends on whether you are favored or not and they give you a ridiculously hard time about it. As far as externships go, some students (about 4-5) did not receive extern placements until about 3 weeks after they were already supposed to start. Some were sent home (out of the country) and told they will have a placement... only to be asked to come back and take clients at the clinic instead. On top of these issues, they keep you extremely out of the loop; if you are having issues with placing people, let us know. Instead, the graduate students here are treated like incompetent children. Furthermore, I have never met more pompous, self-absorbed, flat out nasty girls. Don't get me wrong, not everyone here is like that and perhaps it is just my class, but there are some backstabbing people here... problems I thought I outgrew in middle school. Take from this what you will, but my advice is that you can find the same quality education, receive better treatment that doesn't require you to go on anti-anxiety meds (many of the students here are), and won't cost you an arm and a leg."

"The faculty really care about their students, as they readily response to inquires from grad students. The main difficulty is that financial aid / scholarships are not easily obtained at SU."

"I feel that there are many different opportunities to meet new people and network as well as various programs to become involved in. There is not a lot of financial aid given and it is a very expensive school."

"I feel that it is a great program and well know school. However, it is very expensive to attend and housing is expensive as well."

"Being around the professors at Syracuse have given me the tools that I need to be successful after graduation, and given the surrounding student populating and the common drive for excellence, i couldnt have picked a better place to pursue my degree."

"The professors are great; experts in their field, interesting, and highly invested in education. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for the student body (undergraduate) who have little to no intellectual curiosity."

"Oh god please do not go here for CSD. Many of us are on anti-depressants and anti-anxiety meds, and crying alone in your car happens several times weekly. The workload they dump on you is insane, sleep deprivation and social isolation is the norm because you don't have time to do anything but grad school stuff. They throw you into clinic with three clients (on top of the 5 classes you are taking) the second week you get here and if you ask for help you are marked down for not 'demonstrating independence'. The location for the CSD grad program is NOT on the large and lovely main campus. Many of my classmates have said that they wish they never came here. Also Syracuse the city is a major dump and the crime rate is through the roof. Seriously, look it up. Do yourself a favor and do not do speech pathology at Syracuse, everyday in this program is like a punch in the face."

"I absolutely loved my experience in the program. The professors are accessible and are truly passionate about what they teach. The only cons to this program were: lack of financial aid, unhelpful career services for the field and the safety near campus. I recommend this program to anyone hoping to continue on to a Ph. D program. It will make you excited about the world of Linguistics!"

"The Pro's of my graduate program are that they they work with each student individually to create a career path. They want you to succeed and find a job after you graduate. They also want you to find a job in the field you really want to participate in. The Con's are it's EXTREMELY expensive. But hopefully those cost's will pay off with getting a job!"

"I am in my second semester of this program and it is awful. We spend most of our time in a given week doing paperwork. Every SOAP note and lesson plan has to be edited at least 3 times. So much so that none of us have time to do the readings for class. Clinic supervisors routinely ridicule and berate students. Professors inundate you with disorganized information and then accuse you of not studying or paying attention if you go ask for help. The workload is insane--3 clients and 5 classes each semester. They offer no support and judge you constantly for everything. Students cry all the time and many are on anti-anxiety and anti-depression meds. It is so so terrible. Do yourself a favor--avoid at all costs!!!"
