"UTHSC is a great graduate school. Located in Texas Medical Center, it has plenty of opportunitie, perfect for academic purpose. Less like a university, UTHSC is more like a research institute. You can learn and practice professional skills here. But coming along with this feature, social life here is not as colorful as other universities."

"Pros: It is a great affordable school in the center of the largest medical center in the world. This facilitates networking and provides various opportunities for students. Houston is a rather diverse city and the dynamic of the city is amazing. A wonderful place for any student coming from within or outside the US. I would say it is relatively safe and UTPD (UT police department) is available anytime to help or escort at night. Cons: Living in Houston requires you to get a car, unless you live relatively close to the Texas Medical Center then you can manage taking the school shuttle or the Metro buses/light rail."

"UTSD has an amazing new building with the most up to date equipment and technology. The potential for the proper use of these is very high but I feel the professors could use a lesson or two on how to use them. The social opportunities are also amazing and one can expect something school-sponsored and fun to be held at least once a week. The downfalls of the new building include the tiny room dedicated for the students to eat and also that they did not fully take advantage of the opportunity to build some sort of food court for both the students and patients who attend. Ultimately, the education quality is very high, the building is state of the art, and I love my school!"

"I am enrolled as a masters of public health student with the UT health science center- Houston's School of Public Health at the san antonio regional campus. I am currently in my second year of the program. Pros: I really appreciate the option to enroll with the school of public health at a regional campus because I needed to stay in San Antonio for my job and relationships here. I appreciate the small classroom sizes and the accessibility to professor. I also appreciate the flexibility of the degree and the ability to really tailor the degree to my specific interests. Cons: Because it is a regional campus, not all classes are available each semester. It has been challenging to plan ahead and to ensure that the courses that need to be taken are available. For example, I technically have one semester left of classroom course work, but I am completely sure if I will be able to complete my concentration as I am still short of 9 credit hours. I don't know if any of those classes will be availble this coming semester. I also find that the coursework is not very challenging. Fortunately, if I want to learn and absorb, there is certainly tools and material availble in order to learn well. However, there is not very much oversight or push to thoroughly learn material - you can get away with not completing assignments or studying as carefully and still make decent grades. Overall, it is a program that I believe has been made convenient and accessible to students. I have enjoyed most of my courses and professors, but I think I would have benefitted from a more rigorous and competative graduate program than the UT school of public health program. But like I mentioned, the primary reason I chose this school was for it's location in San Antonio, Texas."

"First and foremost, a "pro" for UTHealth is the fact that our school is in the middle of the largest medical center in the world! You can find someone proficient in ANY field, technique, etc. Also, we are closely affiliated with MDAnderson Cancer Center, which is really exciting for those students hoping to enter that field. For those students living in/near the student housing, there are buses and the Houston Metrorail for transportation. However, traffic/parking prices can be a big problem for those living outside of downtown (good thing the cost of living is low!). The faculty here are amazing and I have found that they make themselves available to us as often as they can. There are a wide variety of skills that one can learn simply in ONE of our many departments! Also, the administration and student committees offer a huge variety of academic and social events throughout each semester (MANY of which include free food/drinks!). Finally, I think that our diversity, in terms of both student population and city culture, is a really great asset. There is always something fun to do either on or off campus!"
