"The actual program and professors were fantastic, dealing with financial aid and communication within departments is abysmal. I have had enormous difficulty in getting through to financial aid to approve my loan for the year and I was supposed to receive a 4 term scholarship, but they did not communicate details to me and I am not going to be able to receive the last term of my scholarship for reasons that I was not aware of up front. It was frustrating enough to make me regret choosing Union Institute even with how great the program was."

"The low residency program at Union Institute & University was the ideal education situation for me. I was able to complete my degree in less than two years with transfers from community college. I'm not sure if the program exists anymore (it may all be online now). The low residency program allowed me to work and collaborate with a small group of peers and my professors and advisor in person. There was a lot of self-direction involved and I had to prioritize my assignments and reading."

"When I was an under graduate student enrolled full time at Vermont College it transitioned to Union Institute and University. I had a very positive experience as an undergraduate going to Union Institute in Vermont. It was a high-bred/ low residency program. The Montpelier campus was beautiful and I had residency there a weekend every month where I could be immersed in my studies. The class sizes were small which enabled my professors to invest a lot of time coaching me one on one. There was a lot of course work that needed to be completed between residencies which required a great deal of planning, prioritizing and time management. My favorite aspect of the program was the diversity of students from all walks of life and background. There perspectives, constructive feedback and encouragement helped me to succeed. Another component of the program that was important for me was the ability to design our own study focus. We were able to customize to our career focus and interest and choose learning material and presentation format. The professors were passionate about teaching and allowed for creative license. They were also serious about the craft of writing and made sure that I mastered the technical side of writing. Im not sure whether the program is the same today or if it has changed in the past 10 years. The residency aspect of the program was very valuable to me and I dont believe I would recommend it as highly if the program is solely online."

"This school has a great program to advance to the Masters in Clinical and Mental Health Counseling. I had attended another college prior to Union. It did not have the program I needed to advance to. I was advised by a friend to apply and I am very impressed with the degree programs. I have wanted to become a clinical and mental health counselor since I took my first psychology class in high school. I am a parent of two, I work full time, and I am a student. I cannot attend a normal degree program and succeed. This school has a degree program that allows me to participate in the lectures, discussions, and assignments. It is the same as in the classroom - without having to actually be IN the classroom. It is an excellent school and one I would recommend to anyone interested in the program."

"I am currently employed in the Criminal Justice Field and am seeking to further enhance my career within Management. The Criminal Justice Management program through Union Institute & University is absolutely excellent. It is a very detailed program but at a pace for someone who works full-time and has family. It is extremely possible to do and the classroom pace is accelerated, yet a pace where you can balance your life. The teachers are absolutely excellent and provide all the information you need. There are also offerings of core classes you must take in group sessions in person where you get to meet individuals who not only teach, but have current and prior experience in the field. They teach you how to become better at what you already do, or will choose to do in the future. The schools main contact Dean Dr. Hibbert is a great man who motivates and inspires you to want to study from the moment you meet him. Professor Norris Redding Criminal Justice classes, is a great teacher and I highly recommend you take any course he is teaching you will fully understand, and be motivated to become a leader. The advisor Kimberly in the Miami Center is fantastic will answer all your questions and help you register no matter how many times you call and change your schedule, and she is so polite. This was the best decision I ever made and this school is nationwide. They have locations everywhere not only in Ohio as to the Miami Center is where I attend. I will be graduating soon and the student debt is not very high which is the best part. I really recommend this school. I am employed Full time in a Police Department, have two kids and Study full time. If I can do it so can you ! Good Luck"

"I have just begun my third session at UI&U in the MA program for Counseling Psychology in a distance learning format. My first session was a fantastic, competitive, stimulating and enlightening experience with regular interaction between my classmates and I. However, my second session experience left me feeling exactly the opposite; un-challenged, un-stimulating and very un-enlightened as I found the faculty completely inaccessible and I was a solo student. I am hopeful, in my current session I might have a very different experience and again feel a connection between my professor and I. My undergraduate years were phenomenal and a contribuiting factor in continuing with UI&U as a grad student. I was very dissapointed with my recent negative experience."

"Union Institute and University is an excellant program for a busy professional attempting a PhD. The faculty are understanding regarding the demands of everyday life and they are supporting. I don't think I could have done this in any other program. The faculty contribution is what makes this a great program. As for any suggestion of improvements... I really don't know what that would be... I am now ABD and I believe I have had and am still having a great learning experience. It is not perfect but it is the best it can be."

"The program that I am currently enrolled is enabling me to become a very well rounded leader and manager in the criminal justice field. I believe this will allow me to secure better paying jobs in the future and allow me utlize my knowledge. The small classroom sizes can both be seen as a pro and con. The small class gives you personal treatment, but on the other hand provides you with less student interaction. Unions location in centeralized affording students with ample opportunities."
