"I am doing my nutritional sciences master along with my dietetic internship therefore my workload is mainly focused on the internship. PROS: professors are all very intelligent and have a lot to offer. Campus offers a lot of study space and resources. CONS: south campus is kind of in a bad area so safety might be an issue."

"UB law provides a great education, with very competitive students. However, it does not have the atmosphere of a cut-throat program. The students are smart, and the faculty is wonderful, but everyone seems to be working toward a common goal: practical knowledge and job placement."

"I am a student in the 3.5 year MArch program at UB. The workload for the first two years is intense but, as with anything, persistence pays dividends. The emphasis on technology and research is evident in the university, which I really appreciate. The university and surrounding area (Buffalo) is also very affordable, so students who pursue degrees here get a very large value and return on the investment. The architecture program is respected, and students here produce some very interesting work. Buffalo boasts an extensive architectural history and students will be fully engaged with the city during their studies, using it as a kind of laboratory for design."

"I enjoy the college area. It is a lovely area of New York to spend time in. The people here at Buffalo are sometimes not very friendly and are unhelpful a lot of the time. If you are looking for a college where you are a number, this is a good college for you. There are so many students I feel the staff have a hard time getting to know any of their students which leads them to be more concerned with their own research instead of their students progress in the program."

"Pros: Very affordable area to live in, most students get funding, a heavy emphasis on language, neuroscience and logic. Cons: Not a very balanced faculty, Buffalo is a B- city to live in, the program is a sink or swim style experience."

"I feel that although the program is small, there is great value in a graduate degree in the sciences at UB. Also, the relatively small program allows for much individual attention and a close-knit research environment. The University also has many great resources to take advantage of and the cost of living is very low."

  • Degree: Physical Therapy
"As a student currently enrolled in the Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program, there are several pros and cons to the program. One of the biggest pros is the opportunity to enhance your classroom knowledge with 52 weeks of clinical rotations spread out over the course of 3 years. This is 12 more weeks than any other country in the school which will only serve to make you a better clinician once you starting working as a professional. There are several opportunities to do research as all of the current faculty have multiple projects they are working on at any given time. The campus is located near several different therapy clinics and hospital settings so the opportunities to work with several different patient populations without having to travel grand distances are tremendous. There are also several places on campus for you to practice in a clinical setting if you so desired to get ready for practicals and such. If you are a transferring into the graduate program and did not take undergraduate classes at UB beforehand, you might be forced to take summer courses in Anatomy before you start your first semester. Some of the equipment is not state of the art if that is what you are looking for but at the same time they are still are very useful and great learning tools. None of the buildings were most of your classes are located are connected so this may be a little unappealing in the winter time but you don't move to Buffalo expecting never to be cold. The good thing is most of the buildings are within a one minute walk of one another so you do not have to travel far."

"I think this is an incredible program and I feel so lucky to be learning here. The trauma-informed focus gives it pertinent direction and guides the training in practical and meaningful ways. So far I have found the professors to be helpful and approachable and supportive. This is a great education!"

"I study Architecture and Structural & Earthquake Engineering, which are both very strong program at my university. The pros are for sure the affordability of tuition and living expenses, as well as the extreme diversity of students (from all over the country and all over the globe.) The school-wide career placement/help is good, but I believe the Department of Architecture's needs much more work to be effective. I've found a very supportive network in both departments. The workload is intense but at the end of each semester I feel as though I have grown tremendously as a person and a future practitioner in the field of architecture and engineering."

"The faculty are very supportive though sometimes they are very busy. The number of graduate students now greatly exceeds the number of faculty so their time is limited. Research is very active within the department and grad students have lots of opportunities to participate and gain experience. Academics are pretty rigorous and makes me feel like I'm getting a lot out of my education. Lifestyle-wise I think North Campus is great. On North Campus there are a lot of housing options which are affordable and makes transportation no longer a problem. Transportation is available when needed even on campus."

"The graduate program at SUNY Buffalo offered great value for a research one University. I had knowledgeable professors who were foremost in their respective areas. I had the ability to participate in research and publish multiple peer reviewed journal articles while completing my masters program. For the price of tuition and living in the greater Buffalo area it is hard to find a comparable deal for the level of education that you receive."
