"The University of Arkansas is overall a good school that has managed over the years to prospect and evolve substantially. One of its strongest assets is the faculty team which embodies well respected and caring Professors who form an admirable relationship with the students. Unfortunately some of the departments are very small and lack a large amount of students which leads to a noncompetitive academic life. It seems though that this is a general phenomenon which perhaps has to do with the surrounding area. It is a beautiful little town and campus that cannot offer so many options and opportunities because its not close to any major cities. Nevertheless, its by far one of the most liberal places in Arkansas and fortunately the education quality is outstanding."

"The program is great... the professors all seem to really care about the students and no one wants us to fail. Sometimes I wonder exactly how much I'm actually learning (I get the distinct feeling I'm just doing this program so I can get the paper at the end of my two years) but it'll help in the end."

"There are not enough grants for the grad students to be put on RA so many of the students are TA's."

"The cost of what you get at the U of A is its best quality. The B school also has nice relationships with several large companies in the area (such as Wal-Mart) that is a great benefit to students. However, they could certainly improve the quality of faculty and the integrated use of technology. Overall, the school is a good fit for me given the cost, but if cost isn't a limiting factor I would suggest considering other schools."

"PhD program in Management is rigorous. Expect to work a lot, and learn a lot of things on your own. It is hard to find support and time from faculty here. The recruitment pitch is not very accurate."

"The town sucks. The school cares about little more than Football, Basketball, Baseball, and producing grads for Tyson, JB Hunt, and Walmart. The classes are a joke. And the science and engineering programs get virtually no money."

"I am a graduate student in the UA Microelectronics-Photonics graduate program. It is an interdisciplinary program, and so the students in the program have academic background in different science disciplines. The program is very flexible in terms of coursework: there are mandatory courses every microEP student should take and the rest of the courses are tailored to each student's interests and career choice. The program director and secretaries help tremendously to advise the students to their best ability so that the students get the most out of the program and complete their graduate degree on time. I have not seen any other department so devoted to maintaining academic excellence, efficient performance, and closeness among graduate students. The program is also unique in terms of the type of the qualifying/candidacy exam microEP students take: microEP students are asked to write two proposals - one proposal should be written during a two-week time period on a topic not familiar to the student, and a second proposal related to the student's own research. This challenging experience simulates a real-life case scenario. In addition to the great graduate program, Fayetteville has a lot of artistic and athletic people so life is never boring. There are many natural parks with lakes and trails for backpacking and hiking. The nature is beautiful and the place is great for raising a family. The nearby Bentonville and Rogers are growing fast and there will be many more job opportunities."
