"Like many four year universities, you have to find your niche. Luckily, my niche was in my department. I loved my department from the coursework to the professors. The school itself is welcoming to international students. There is also many chances for students to get involved in student groups. I would recommend it, plus it's easier on the wallet than other Oklahoma schools."

"UCO's psychology grad program is very counseling-focused. Experimental and forensic students may feel somewhat socially excluded, as the counseling students spend most of their coursework with the same cohort. If you're willing to take social risks, you will find the other students generally friendly. The parking at UCO sucks. Learn the local parking and unless you have classes that start before 9 or only after 4, don't even bother buying a parking pass, as you won't find a spot (leaving you out $125 with nothing to show for it). If you find yourself in need of help and you put in the effort to contact your professors, you will find them eminently approachable and willing to help with difficulties you face (provided you've done your end)."

"Great school with smaller class sizes and professors are readily available and qualified in their areas! Some negatives are little parking and tuition expense"

"I believe UCO offers a competitive graduate program in the field of mental health and substance abuse studies. It definitely prepares you for a career as a mental health therapist and/or as a substance abuse counselor."

"The University of Central Oklahoma has a unique outlook for traditional and non-traditional students. It is called, Transformative Learning. They are dedicated to giving students creative and scholarly activities, discipline knowledge, research experience, civic engagement and service learning, as well as, global and cultural competencies. They even implement the importance of health and wellness in successful professionals, to ensure adequate quality of life. When I graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with my bachelors, I felt I had so much experience in aspects of my personal and professional life that had not been explored ever. I gained experience from exploring different cultures and taking pride in my research that I had been conducting for 2 years. I take pride and look forward in going back to UCO to continue my graduate career."

"The quality of instruction is fantastic. All of the instructors have high levels of proficiency in their fields and are adept at helping their students learn relevant information. The only negative for this specific program is that the size of the class has grown so large that it will soon warrant an expanded facility."

"I believe that the program at UCO is extremely affordable! The only draw back is having to live in a high-income area."

"The program emphasizes on the important characteristics any graduate student should focus on, such as critital thinking ability and communication skills. Professors are passionate and understand well the materials as well as the overall experience. On the other hand, the program puts less focus on finding the qualified candidates and has somewhat slightly lower requirements for future students. However, once accepted, those who cannot carry on fall out quite quickly."

"The University is comfortable and has knowledgeable professors. However, financial aid is very difficult to receive here. Scholarships are few and far between. The technology in most of the classrooms and in the buildings are not as advanced as I would expect from such a prominent school. The library closes entirely way too early and the campus in general does not provide the tools necessary for success as often as I feel I need them. But the most of the professors are very beneficial and helpful so it is possible the money not being put into these other areas is being spent on providing individuals who can provide a better education for the student when in class, which is why everyone is there anyways."

"It feels like I have learned more in one year here than in my four years of undergraduate studies combined. The professors are extremely knowledgeable in their subject areas. As an international student, I have received better assistance from staff members here than from my university in my own country. Great school!"

"Because there are so many professors in each department, it is easy to find one with similar interests. This helps with tailoring a program to reflect these interests. The largest con I have encountered has been the strain on faculty. Many are bogged down in their schedules and spreading themselves thin that it becomes difficult at times to remain in touch with certain professors."

"I think UCO has a great graduate program for commuters and those working full-time. Classes are at night once or twice a night. This works perfectly for me!"

"The academic quality of the Psychology graduate programs are unbelievably good. I have an MBA, and that was nothing compared to the level of education as this. I'm very happy with the instruction and the amount of responsibilities. I am most unhappy about the parking availability for normal students. Walking across campus because there are no close parking places is difficult especially in bad weather."
