"Wonderful faculty members willing to be of assistance. Small class sizes to facilitate group discussion and collaborative thinking. Iowa City is a great place to live, and the University if centered in the downtown area with various restaurants and accessible facilities."

"I believe that college is the most important four years of your life. Making the decision to attend the University of Iowa was one of the best decisions I ever made. It is important to feel comfortable at your school, and also to find your passion while you are there. Your major in college doesn't have to be just something to find a career, but something that makes going to class every day worth wild."

"This program was fine, and I left with a degree that allowed me to continue my career. However, the faculty were completely frustrating. They were petty and childish with each other and the graduate students. Oddly enough, my teaching load was what saved my sanity. AVOID!"

"My program Planning offers a lot of versatility in the job market. I could work for a variety of organizations and even outside the U.S. if I wanted. In addition with the increasing population more planners will be needed so this is a growing field."

"The University of Iowa is a great school, where you are expected to perform to the best of your ability but are also supported by faculty. It is a good environment where our futures as dentists are nurtured. Some classes do seem to take up excessive amounts of time, however."

"The statistics department has amazing faculty, staff, and resources. There are both theoretical and applied statisticians in the faculty, which I feel gave me a very well rounded education. The office staff will help with anything from fixing printers to scheduling substitutes if you have to miss a day of teaching. Iowa City has big city fun (bars, malls, and always something going on) with a small town atmosphere (local businesses, easily walkable). I couldn't have asked for a better graduate school experience"

"Pros: The faculty are knowledgeable and you can usually get support for projects. In general, the department wants to support graduate success. They usually have funding for graduate teaching. Cons: Lately we have had a high turnover of faculty, which has broken up many grad students' committees. Although the graduate college is pushing for fast times to degree, they are reducing fellowship and grant funding. Class sizes are continually increasing, causing more focus on teaching and less on research/writing."

"I feel I have learned a lot in this program, and I feel very challenged. One thing I do not like however is the amount of classes/work you have to take aside from you research and thesis studies. Most programs, I am learning, you do not take other classes while you are doing your thesis or during your last thesis semester. However, here, you have to have a minimum of 9 credits along side writing a thesis and you are most likely teaching as well and it is just too much to focus well on your research and produce great work in a limited time. In addition, while most programs in the studio arts field take classes and the work they do in those classes function towards work they can use for their thesis work, my specific program within studio arts does not work that way. There are not a lot of classes available to help towards your thesis."

"The place significantly lacks multicultural groups of racial and ethnic diversity. Several friends of mine who were African-American and Asian-American graduate students had experienced physical and verbal abuse and discrimination. One had difficulty in finding an apartment in downtown area due to his race."
