"As an in state student, I received a full tuition scholarship to the University of Kentucky and began as an Undecided major. During my Sophomore year I declared a major in International Studies with a focus in Culture and the Arts. I switched guidance counselors but found it still difficult to choose a career path during and after my undergraduate career. The University could use more programs and counselors to help students find a path and focus after graduation."

"I wouldn't trade my days at the University of Kentucky for anything. I started off as a student-athlete who dedicated 25 plus hours each week to a sport and ended as a regular college with a double major. Entering my fourth and final year as "NARP" (non-athletic regular person) I can say that I found an instant network of colleagues to help advance my academic career. With gymnastics it was very hard to be involved in extra curricular activities that did not involve athletics or required community service. This new "college life" I experienced opened up doors to government connections that have helped me pursue my career in homeland security after I began an internship at the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security. I obtained this internship from talking to professors in the political science department and together they were able to help me intern at KOHS during my fall and spring semester. UK offers great opportunities for any kind of student. Just show you are interested and connections will be made."

"The University of Kentucky. Big Blue Nation and in the biggest and most well known conference in the country, the SEC! This school has given me a diverse experience when it comes to class size, professors, and overall opportunities. I transferred to the University as an athlete, and I must say the athletes are treated like celebrities! Seriously, a day would not go by when you did not see a student chasing after a basketball player for an autograph. Despite the fandom, the school spirit there was amazing! Attending any sporting event I expected to have a great time. Now with academics it was a very different story. Kinesiology is a great major, with a large group of students. The issue I had is the classes were not that challenging and looking back I should have picked up a minor. Since athletics were really big there were great shadowing opportunities for those seeking to be an athletic trainer, personal trainer, or physical therapist. If you are seeking to do pre-medicine like myself, there were opportunities, but they were not discussed in my department, I had to go search for months to figure out who I needed to talk to, to make sure I was meeting the requirements for medical school. The university has a really big study abroad program, looking back as a transfer sophomore I should have studied abroad as soon as possible. They offer lots of scholarships in that department, but in order to get any other scholarships you kinda have to know someone who knows someone. The professors were amazing. I really made a point to email my professors and go meet with them. Of course I had some professors that were unreasonable, and I just relied on the awesome study centers on campus and study groups with students in the class. The university is not that diverse, and you can really see it when you attend a basketball or football game. However, there are plenty of organizations to join like the black student union, multicultural out of state student association and others, mainly because these orgs are focused on diversity. There is always something happening on campus, just go to student activities board for a calendar and you will be set for the year! Enjoy this university, you will be glad you did!"

"This program is good for students who want to go on to a professional degree. It works as a post baccalaureate degree in terms of taking upper level coursework, but also allows you to get a degree in the process. The professors are smart and mostly helpful. Out of state tuition is ridiculously expensive. You spend most of your time in the college of medicine around other graduate students involved in a multitude of career paths in the health field."

"The University of Kentucky is a great school. The campus, although large, is friendly and welcoming. Lexington is a wonderful city and has a great "college town" vibe. I choose to attend UK after visiting the campus, as soon as I arrive I felt like I was home, this is one of the biggest reasons I decided to attend UK for both my Bachelor's and Master's degree."

"I received an incredible education at the University of Kentucky. I was taught by knowledgeable professors and took advantage of the numerous involvement opportunities. UK allows students to have an amazing college experience, such as by joining student organizations or studying abroad."

"Excellent education. Prepared me for a professional job and now I am headed into a top-tier grad program. Big state school, so it is what you make of it. Great faculty though and lots of resources- just use them! Majored in international studies and studied a foreign language. Loved Lexington to boot."

"I think college is pretty pointless for a degree such as mine. If you know that you want to be a doctor, or a nurse, or a teacher, or a layer, then college is great. But if you don't know what you want to do, you're really just putting yourself in a very expensive box. You'd be better off taking time out of high school to travel, work different jobs and find your passion before trying to develop a passion while going into mass amounts of debt. UK was hit or miss. Some classes changed my life, but many I can't even remember."

"It is a large party school, that focuses on sports and greek life. Some of the grad programs are ok- especially med school and psychology, but there are a lot of bureaucratic obstacles, department politics, and general mistreatment of students."

"Excellent experience and unique degree program. I had knowledge and experience to get a job in my field after graduation. You have to really make the experience your own by carefully choosing your internships and focus area - this will set you apart in a large student body."

"My initial academic adviser was terrible, though during my junior year I was given an adviser within my college which helped tremendously. I lived in the south campus dorms for the first 2 years, which were fine. Almost all of the gen-ed classes up to 200 level contained 200+ students which was not the best environment."

"The campus was beautiful however I sensed a focus more on athletics than academics. The school is really large so if you want the more one-on-one feel then I would not recommend this campus for you."

"Some of the pros associated with the program is the state of the art facilities available to students. We are usually able to see the recorded lecture of the professor again when we please, see video of ourselves during mock patient encounters or putting together a pharmaceutical product, helping us learn more efficiently. We have group study rooms that are very comfortable and convenient to use while studying for exams. The number of student organizations specific to pharmacy are abundant and there are so many ways to get involved. There are not many cons that come into my head when thinking about this program. The biggest I think would be the sheer number of lecturers we have. In a sense, the number of professors is good, in that we have those who are experts in that particular topic teaching us. However, there are also many freshly out of school residents who are required to teach and they do not always do a good job and it is at the student's expense. While most professors are very willing to get together with you to solve issues or points of confusion, there are a few bad apples who do not really care about your success at all. These individuals are only there because they know what they are talking about and because they bring millions in grants to the school. It is a bit disappointing from that standpoint."

"There's a lot you have access to. Facilities, study help, clubs, sports, community. Many classes with many professors, most of which are more than willing to help you if you ask for it. The advisor you're assigned is NOT always the right one for you. Shop around and look up and meet different advisors in your college. Not every student in your major plans to go down the same path as you and certain advisors will have a better idea of how to guide a student in your major with your goals in mind. I learned that the hard way, though just in time to graduate in only 4years. Be open to opportunities. Even if something is only somewhat related to your major, jump in anyway. It will help you feel out for yourself your likes dislikes and strengths and you will be more rounded out overall. Take this time to take those chances, they will never be as affordable and as accommodating as they will be during your time as a student."

"It was a big research university, it spent too much money/resources on the 'undergraduate experience,' and not enough on their actual research efforts. Like most universities with graduate programs, it underfunded the graduate research programs, in my opinion because they funneled money to development projects geared toward undergraduates. Professors were routinely encouraged to make courses less demanding, lest they be reprimanded by student evaluations. Undergraduates demanded curves on grades, and were not expected to do rigorous work. There is basketball, though. And people liked it."
