"DO NOT DO THIS PROGRAM. Attend as a backup if you need it, or if you just want to get your degree and jump in. Do not enter if you hope to be prepared for your career ESPECIALLY AS A COUNSELOR IN HIGHER ED. As someone who works in higher ed I am constantly shocked by the lack of professionalism and organization from this school and their administrative faculty. It's common to get no response or extremely delayed responses, and there is absolutely no information AT ALL for those of us who are here to become college counselors. I was lied to by program recruiters who told me this program is for K12 and College counselors, and that professors worked in college as well as K12. Every single one of my professors have been K12 and every single class and assignment is aimed at K12. This has been the worst educational experience of my life and I cannot possibly drag this school to the level they should. DO NOT GO HERE"

"Great program. The heavy workload was to be expected, but well worth it. The instructors and staff are very caring. I would definitely do it again."

"Pros: The M.S. in Educational Counseling is a wonderful program that prepares you for your future career as a school counselor. This program allows you the opportunity to complete either the 'masters only' option or the masters with PPS credential. Faculty is easy to reach and supportive as well and the cohorts are small and intimate. Classes are easily designed for working professionals and the program is well designed. Cons: While almost every Counseling program requires fieldwork hours, the hours required for this program can seem rather demanding. While completing back-to-back courses (10 weeks each), while attempting coursework, work, family, etc., finding the time to complete the internship hours can be challenging. Also, the process of obtaining an intern position was stressful and difficult. This must be acquired by the student on their own time with no assistance by the university."

"The University of La Verne graduate program in Educational Counseling was a great program overall because of their regional education program. The majority of the courses taken were with adjunct professors from surrounding universities as well as from the main campus, and classes were scheduled to meet the needs of working professionals. It was also an intimate group. With only 15 in our cohort, we were able to get to know each other well and share our experiences working in the field. The only con to this program was that without being on a traditional campus, the sense of overall academia was not present, but the academic rigor was. I would highly recommend the University and the program to anyone considering an education in school-based counseling."

"The graduate program is excellent. A pro is that the professors and the staff are always helpful and readily available. In addition, another pro is that you feel as though you are actually learning something and that the information you are receiving is valuable and can be utilized not only inside the classroom but outside of the classroom as well. Another pro is that the number of students in a classroom are small so you feel as though you are an actual person that counts instead of just a number in a crowd of many. The classes are taught by actual professor instead of TA's that may be lacking in experience. Also, because the classroom sizes are small you are able to participate is discussions and asks questions which enhances the learning experience. However, a con is that the tuition cost that is consistently increased. Also, it is difficult to find parking and even when you purchase a parking permit it seems as though it is a waste of money because the permitted parking spaces are always full."

"I love that the University Of La Verne offers a quality education that is convenient for individuals that work. Their program is tailored to meet the needs of students in a variety of locations by having cohort programs in various locations, not just in the city of La Verne. The staff and administrative officials are very helpful and accommodating. They are truly there to assist students to be successful. They are preparing me well to be able to pursue my dream career of becoming a School Counselor."

"For me, it was great to have an outreach program in my area that had hours that were convenient for my teaching schedule. The professors were industry professionals who were very helpful. The cons would be the cost, but that is to be expected."

"Graduate school brings more workload than undergraduate school, yet the benefit stands alone in the future. The benefit consist of me being a standout candidate for a position that requires a graduate degree. La Verne University does an exceptional job on helping students like me excel in their career goals."
