"The school professes against discrimination but practices it as it upholds the privileged status-quo. The school sets students up for failure in their classes and field placements by overburdening them and sending them into poorly screened unsafe environments. The school is located in a dangerous neighborhood, where shootings and muggings are commonplace. The school does not take complaints seriously and has a tendency to discredit and sweep concerns under the rug, and blame the person making the complaint. Students are cliquish and this makes it difficult to network and develop supports for success.Read Less"

"University of Maryland Baltimore was a great school. The classes and professors taught me a lot. There were also good opportunities for internships, where I learned a lot as well. The tuition was also a good price for the education."

"I'm currently enrolled in the School of Social Work at the University of Maryland - Baltimore campus. The classes are obtainable. If you're on a 3 or 4 year track, you can take the first 2 semesters slow and work full time while you're in school. Field placements aren't very flexible around a work schedule, though. The teachers are great - super knowledgable. The students are pretty smart but not very challenging. I get it, we're all liberal social workers... but no one here is pushing my views are forcing me to see the opposite (conservative) socio-political viewpoints.Read Less"

"The graduate program provides academic flexibility, allowing students to take day, evening and weekend classes. The students in the program come from very different backgrounds allowing for excellent class discussions, diversity in experiences and expectations of future work environments."

"There needs to be a few technological advances in the class scheduling department. Cons are there is very limited flexibility when it comes to choosing classes."

"The MSW Program at University of Maryland, Baltimore is a wonderful place to pursue higher education. The professors and students are a delight, and hands-on learning is a priority. My only complaint is that the surrounding area is not as safe as I'd like it to be. Other than that, the program itself is well worth the time, and financial investment."

"UMB has a highly ranked social work program. Based on my personal experiences, my instructors have been all-around excellent (minus one or two). The instructors truly want students to succeed. My negatives: as an African-American female student, I am highly disappointed in their efforts to strengthen the school's diversity. I believe the school can improve by recruiting more men and minorities, and by considering their unique perspectives when developing course curriculum. In addition, parking is too expensive. After purchasing a student parking permit, students are still required to pay $5/day in order to park in the school garages. Lastly, there aren't many options for food, drinks, coffee, etc. Overall, a great program.Read Less"

"The professors are definitely a great attribute to the students. Most have a lot of professional experience and are always willing to give students educational and professional advice. In addition, many are flexible and supportive of students. They are extremely knowledgeable and you will learn a lot for your MSW career! However, the overall administration of the school can sometimes be daunting with financial aid and student advising. So students need to be prepared to advocate for themselves when they need things done. In addition, the field placements make it nearly impossible to work full time and complete the MSW program. So many students have to stop working, which means they have to incur additional student loans for tuition and living expenses. Overall, the program is good and I would recommend it, but those are all things to consider when applying for admission.Read Less"

"The program has a tremendous faculty with tons of experience. The students and the school staff are very friendly and helpful. As with any school some courses are easier than others but so far the grading has been fair. The school is very helpful in terms of finding internships and employment after graduation. A con is the surrounding area. Once you leave the few blocks of the campus the area becomes a little sketchy. I would recommend this program to those seeking their MSW."
