"The masters in applied anthropology at the University of Maryland, College Park is unique. Instead of writing a thesis, this program requires students to get an internship that is relevant to their focus. The course work also includes interviewing professionals in the field prior to the internship. This provides networking opportunities and openings to get an internship. There are also departmental activities that include networking and opening discussions about diversity and current issues."

"The anthropology program at UMCP is a great program. The faculty is diverse and has myriad experiences that enrich their teaching. There are also countless opportunities to engage in research and travel that are associated with different areas of anthropology, allowing you to explore these until you find your niche."

"The anthropology program at UMD provides a great foundation for pursuing careers in many arenas. With a large network of both tenure-track and professional-track faculty, the program provides a good base regardless of your post-graduate path, and the program continues to broaden its offerings in this sense. One of the best and worst aspects is the proximity to DC. While this provides ample opportunities for networking, interning, and other sources of experience, College Park and the surrounding area cannot escape the high cost of living associated with Washington DC. Graduate stipends (at the school, not just within this program) are not reflective of this high cost of living."
