"Medical school may be four of the most academically challenging years of your life, so finding a place with a community that is supportive is paramount. The community at University of Michigan Medical School is phenomenal, setting it apart from other medical schools at which I interviewed. The administration, staff, and faculty are clear from the very beginning that they want to support you 100% in your training to becoming a physician. Additionally, they are invested in your overall wellbeing, and structure the curriculum to be flexible and broad to support your interests in non-medical areas. The faculty have an open-door policy, and are always eager to talk to students about careers in their field of medicine, welcome them to shadow in clinic or the OR, and invite them to participate in research. In the first two years, there are weekly quizzes, but you have a 3-day window in which to take the test based on your study style and schedule. This allows you to keep stress-levels low, and gives you time to pursue other interests and socialize with your class. The clinical training is rigorous, but you have the opportunity to work with world-renowned physicians. The patient population is surprisingly diverse, as the hospital is a referral center, receiving patients from rural and urban areas both. You also have the opportunity to rotate at community hospitals and the VA, which is great exposure to health care in a non-academic medicine setting. What makes Michigan stand out to me--and why I know I made the right decision in attending medical school here--is the caliber of my peers. Instead of competing with one another, we support each other to be the best doctors we can be. The community here is unparalleled, and has made medical school, for me, an incredible experience."

"UMMS is a great place to learn medicine. The faculty and staff are generally medical student friendly. It is wonderful to be associated with a well known university. This allows medical students the opportunity to take advantage of state-of-the-art facilities and be a part of great innovation. Ann Arbor is a typical college-town with great love for their University sports teams."

"The University of Michigan Medical School is a well known program. It is well regarded everywhere. The school makes it easy to explore other interests outside of school, or take care of things beyond medical school. There is not a ton of individual mentorship built directly into the curriculum, so you need to be self-driven in that respect. Everyone here is very friendly, and Ann Arbor is a great place to live."

"Unniversity of Michigan's Medical School is currently ranked 8th in the country for medical schools, as of 2012 U.S. News rankings. It provides students with great opportunities for clinical exposure in the "science" years and also various research experiences with some of the nation's best physician scientists. The student social life is terrific with local music shows, every cuisine imaginable and plenty of sporting events. The city of Ann Arbor truly can cater to all types of students."

"U of M has a great medical program. From the moment I was first interviewed I felt so welcomed. The faculty are always very receptive and willing to talk to students in order to find better ways to teach and learn. The staff is very supportive and very often will go out of their ways to help you out. Although the class size (~170) can be a little of a problem during the first and second year for those who like smaller groups, it is also important to remember that during the 3rd and 4th year things seems a little more quiet as rotations are done in groups of 7 to 15 students. I feel the quality of education at U of M is outstanding!"

"The University of Michigan is made of students, alumni and staff with a main goal of your graduation, your success and your future career. Everyone treats you like an important member of their team and your accomplishments or failures are everyone's personal responsibility. This school not only prepares you for your future career but it prepares you to be successful and valuable when you arrive there. The community atmosphere along with the great and dedicated professors makes this school a great choice for both undergraduate and graduate students."

"I have been told by several professionals out side if the school, who are familiar with the program, in my field of interest that it is a fantastic program to be affiliated with. The instruction and quality of cohort is outstanding but it is very expensive to live in the area. The university provides a gamut of resources, I was recently in an off-campus crisis situation and the university immediately reached out to me and has helped me through several dimensions of the situation. The School of Public Health program itself is quality on so many levels, I have no regrets about choosing this program!"

"The program is compeditive and very professional. The classes and format of the program is very well organized. Advisors and faculty are well connected practicing members of the profession and easy to reach and approach. One drawback is that grading is often done by student graders who can be inconsistent. There is a lot of group work as well which can be challenging depending on the luck of which group you are assigned. However, I feel overall that I am getting excellent preparation to enter my future profession."
