"Like any graduate program in social work, my graduate program had its up's and down's. The major positive of the program is that it is an atmosphere of learning. The concepts and theoretical frameworks we discuss in class give great insight as to what to expect in the profession. As for cons of the program, the administrative component can be difficult to deal with. I found it terribly frustrating to get questions answered about my academic track."

"It is the number one school of Social Work, so you can't get a better quality of education. They offer many interesting classes and professors with a depth of experience. However, the financial aid is lacking, and living in Ann Arbor is very expensive."

"I think University of Michigan provides a rigorous but rewarding experience. However, I think that so far as an applicant, I have had to do a lot of extra leg work to get my questions answered and to get support from faculty and staff."

"It's #1 in the country, but it is also really expensive, even for a 16 month program."

"As the #1 social work program in the nation, the University of Michigan, School of Social Work has MANY opportunities to tailor your interests to. The staff, atmosphere, and quality of education is wonderful. My financial aid package we disappointing, as I am in poverty, but there are many scholarships the school offers. I love the selection of concentrations across the social work spectrum: from global social work, gerontology, and interpersonal practice, and more."

"pros: Ann Arbor is a great town once you've found your favorite places and establish a good social network. Some of the faculty in the MSW program are really supportive and love engaging with students. The program really promotes self-care and are able to send you in the right direction if you need additional emotional/mental support while in the program. cons: The MSW program U of M sells prospective students is false advertisement. Don't expect to get one of your top choices for field placement. It's very difficult to hold any kind of job while in school. The program attracts like-minded students who are not as diverse as they would like you to think. There's not a lot of support/accommodations for older students and/or students with families. With the school accepting more students each year, it's easy to become a number so you have to be willing to be your own advocate for everything and know where to look for any resources you may need. Overall, many of my classmates and I would choose another school if we had to do this over again."
