"I enjoyed my time at UMSL. It was a quality education that was convenient to home and affordable. I would recommend this school to students interested in social work specifically."

"UMSL is a local school that has a lot to offer. The social work program was challenging and lead by experienced and caring staff."

"The academic competitiveness of my graduate program was excellent. The workload provided great hands-on experience rather than just "busy work." Faculty members were very helpful and supportive in my educational pursuits; they were easily accessible outside of class. I was able to develop professional relationships with several of my instructors. However, I was not pleased with the financial aid process; they offered more loans than scholarships and grants and made the entire process generally unpleasant. Overall though, I am very satisfied with my academic experience at UMSL."

"PROS: The faculty and staff are readily accessible and available. In spite of their academic and professional accomplishments, they have not forgotten what it takes to achieve those goals. CONS: The amount of class sections offered during the day are very minimal. This is not conducive to the non-traditional student who has an evening work schedule."

"The instructors bring their knowledge that is based on experience as well as their training. The fact that they have experience behind their training is a plus. I also found them to be accessible outside of the classroom, responding to any questions/emails I might have. The one complaint I would have is that several of the evening classes do not offer more than one section. Additionally, they usually start around 4:00 to 4:30 pm. Because I have a set work schedule that is full time I found these circumstances to be somewhat of an obstacle"

"The social work program at UMSL is, for the most part, wonderful. While campus can't compete with other (expensive) schools in the area, the cost of the school is great for the quality of the education. Professors are happy to work with you to develop social work skills and take time in class to dive deeply into case issues. UMSL's social work program spends less time developing research skills, but many of the practicum sites we share with other programs in the area prefer UMSL students because of their willingness to work hard. UMSL students are there for skills, not just more initials after their name."
