"I have extremely enjoyed my graduate program. The classes were challenging and interesting. Whenever I encountered a problem my teachers and classmates were always ready and willing to help. The only con I could think of was there should be more real world examples for school counselors in training. However, I do not really think that was a fault in my program."

"The social work program at UMSL is, for the most part, wonderful. While campus can't compete with other (expensive) schools in the area, the cost of the school is great for the quality of the education. Professors are happy to work with you to develop social work skills and take time in class to dive deeply into case issues. UMSL's social work program spends less time developing research skills, but many of the practicum sites we share with other programs in the area prefer UMSL students because of their willingness to work hard. UMSL students are there for skills, not just more initials after their name."

"The graduate program is no different than any other. The biggest detriment is that there is no mentorship. You can take the courses and do well, but there is little to no help with your career. You are given a brief overview of the tools you will need, but you don't really learn how to use them. Additionally, the program is very focused on pushing students to academia, but doesn't mention the other options and career paths available for graduates. In fact, those that choose other paths are discouraged and often neglected. The program has attained a high ranking and maintains based on the publishing strength of the faculty, not on the scholars they produce."

"The faculty are excellent with a very involved mentoring relationship. However, there is not sufficient funding for decent living expenses."

"UMSL is heavily a commuter campus, so not much on-campus housing, but it is definitely worth it. As someone who came from out of town and didn't have much other choice, I am very glad I chose to live on campus. The dorms are very nice (and new), the teacher's in the IS program are all very approachable and willing to talk, and UMSL has a great alumni network and relationships with companies and organizations int he metropolitan area and beyond. Also, UMSL has the same accreditation as SLU and Wash U but costs a fraction of the price, giving a huge value to the diplomas earned."

"I selected the University of Missouri St. Louis because I feel as though it excels in all of these categories. UMSL is a great university with amazing staff that are truly interested in the success of all students. I couldn't be happier to attend UMSL."

"The education is good, but the program only steers you into academic work. Practical skills are not taught. There is no professional mentoring. If you struggle with the program there is no help for you. In hindsight, I would not have attended this university for graduate school. To be fair, I probably would not have gone to graduate school. It is just not worth it. It is more affordable and there are more career opportunities available for those who have a technical degree doing anything related to IT or software."

"My major may not the best major in this school but I found many qualified professor here, and UMSL is a public school with a pretty good quality. When I come back to my country I think the US master degree with a good quality of school would be very useful for me. However, the major in the comm grad in UMSL are not diversed and limited."

"UMSL is a great balance between cost and quality. However, it is kind of a commuter school so there is very little social life centered around the University."

"The UMSL Criminology and Criminal Justice program is not just another uppity, nationally ranked program. This program is a down-to-Earth, affordable, AMAZING masters and PhD program."
