"UNL is really a great school with a great atmosphere there are some cons but they are heavily outweighed by the pros. Cons: - Student fees are pretty steep, especially when it feels like they don't provide simple and mandatory software subscriptions for students such as SPSS and free access to the gym classes. - On campus food is horrible. There are exactly four restaurants in the unions (Subway, an over priced Chinese place, an Auntie Anne's Pretzel place, and a Runza). There is no real coffee places on campus :( - It's a dry campus. - Travel awards are crap if you aren't a clinical student. It was a joke when I was awarded $150 for a conference half away across the country when Clinical student get up to a $1000. -Public transportation is virtually nonexistent. There is a bus but it stops running after 6pm and there is no train or means to getting to Omaha (50 miles away) or another big city easily. -There are no dance clubs or much for live music:( -Restaurants are not the best here because it lacks diversity ethnic food isn't all that great. -Student parking is pretty expensive (500 for a whole year) Pros: -Husker pride is amazing here. The whole community loves the university which is unlike anything I have ever seen. -The Psychology program is pretty stellar as far as good research professors and it is very collaborative across labs, departments, and other universities. -Downtown is pretty cute, lots of nice little bars but again no dance clubs or much live music. -The department is pretty low drama for the most part. -Fellow grad. students are really cool and chilled here. Nobody is competitive with one another and I found it to be one of the best Psychology department atmospheres that I have ever witnessed. - Our department has a lot of toys and if you want to work with something in another lab it is pretty easy to get access to it without a problem. -Course load is bare minimum so you can get done with all required courses in just a year and half. -GSA puts together some nice socials with free food at least once a month and they are pretty fun and nice to go to. -Health Center, health insurance, and Rec Center are pretty good (except my biggest complaint is that you still have to pay for fitness classes) -Cost of living in Lincoln is among the cheapest in the country so that it is huge plus. -I have an amazing adviser so I am pretty bias in that I love being a grad. student at UNL but they definitely have some things they could improve on."

"The pros are the great study environment and qualities that University of Nebraska Lincoln provides. The cons could be vary the study areas by having more professors do research on different projects and not just focusing on the Great Plain Area."

"The positive points about this graduate program is the distinctive opportunity to intermingle with so many different persons coming from different academic backgrounds. The ability to communicate with persons coming from both an industrial background or an academic background makes this program very enriching which enables tackling various problems associated with food science and technology. The only con of this program is the insufficiency of funds available for students who fail to properly utilize their potential due to dearth of funding."

"It's a graduate program with challenge and great benefits. Many intelligent and approachable professors and students are so warm and willing to help me out with any difficulties I come across during my graduate study and research. For living aspects, the expense of food and housing are reasonable. Additionally, people in Lincoln are really nice and living here is very relaxed and peaceful."

"Graduate school is all about what you make it. If your goals are to become a world famous scientist, you can do that, but if all you want is to learn new things and make friends, you can do that too. The chemistry program allows you to interact both with people from different places (both domestically and internationally), and different scientific backgrounds. It has been a great place to lay a foundation scientifically and socially. I have met people that will be friends for life and I have made connections with people that will help in my future endeavors. The department is really supportive. Students have the opportunity to grow under a lab setting. Both the staff and the faculty want us to succeed and they are willing to help you become successful. Even the tough professors are in your corner."

"I have a dual matriculation in Community and Regional Planning, and Architecture, the only downfall I've seen is the hierarchy placed on the value of one program versus the other. However, the college is very effective at integrating the various disciplines from within the college. The professors are easily accessible and the quality of those relationships have an apprenticeship feel. There's a consistent connection with the college and the surrounding communities up to a regional scale, I find this very beneficial to graduates who intend on staying in the area."

"I am still pretty new to this program but I love it so far! I get a lot of support and guidance from my professor that I am working with for my research project as well as other students and faculty. The classes are small enough that I don't feel lost in the crowd and it's easy to find help if you need it. Lincoln is a great place to live and there is so much to do! UNL has been very welcoming and I'm loving it!"
