"A con about my specific program is that it is small. However, the program is new and is still growing. I feel that the education here is really great and despite being located in a less populated part of the country, still prepares you compete in the national job market."

"UNL's Ph.D. program in mathematics is wonderful. The department is extremely supportive community. I highly recommend this program to prospective graduate students."

"Small department, so easy to get to know everyone and discuss projects. Stipends are relatively low, although so is cost of living in the area. Most of faculty does good research"

"The best part about my graduate program is the continued opportunity for research. There are also great professors to learn from. The research methods and statistics courses are particularly advanced and useful. The worst part about my graduate program is the lack of coursework specific to cognitive psychology. I have found myself having to sign up for courses in social psychology and other types of psychology without learning more about my particular field."

"I am in my first year of my PhD program at UNL and I feel like the workload is reasonable for a doctorate program. My department is going through several changes in faculty, which makes it difficult sometimes to get answers to my questions and to network, but overall, I feel it is a great value and have been really happy with the quality of coursework."

"The faculty in the program are very accessible and willing to help the students. The program does not do a good job at bringing the first year students together, which would enable more interaction among the students."

"Tell us about your college experience. My college experience was overall good. I fit well at UNL and UNL fit well with me. It was a good state school that got me a degree.Would you get the same degree if you could start over?Yes, because I would have a job. What advice can you offer other students?Dont go into school expecting to know what you want to do. Youre going to change your mind."

"I feel that my program is awesome because of the collaboration amongst my peers and the faculty. Though we strive for high academic achievement, there isn't competition for who is best in the program. My program offers a very good education in school psychology to prepare me to be a good clinician and practitioner upon graduation. However, because my program must meet the extensive APA requirements, it is challenging (but not impossible) to find educational opportunities aside from those outlined by APA. For example, I wish there was more training on crisis intervention."

"Very good graduate program for architectural engineering. One of the best MAE programs in the country. Fast tracked 5 year Masters Degree. Only drawback is BSAE degree is not accredited making the MAE degree required."

"I couldn't be happier with my graduate school choice. At UNL, I feel like I got a great education as well as great training as a teacher and as a future faculty member. The graduate students often say that "Grad school sucks. But it sucks less at Nebraska."."

"I have only recently begun my studies in the Professional Journalism concentration of the School of Mass Communication and Journalism at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, but I can honestly say this is probably the best journalism graduate program in the country. The staff are incredibly experienced and amazingly dedicated to the success of their students, the school is the best funded in the country (to the tune of $6 million per year by the Howard Buffet Foundation), the cost is reasonable and the opportunities for grants/scholarships/fellowships are abundant, and the networking potential here is absolutely incredible. Add in the fact that UNL has a beautiful, easy to get around campus and the city itself is one of the most underrated and overlooked larger cities in the country, and you have a recipe for a dream grad school program."

"Overall, I love my time at UNL. Lincoln is (surprisingly) a great community with a lot to do. The faculty here are accessible and go out of their ways to help students transition to life in the department and work with them on research. The collaboration is great with in and among the departments. My biggest frustrations have been caused by unclear requirements. As soon as we asked questions, faculty coordinated across departments to get things resolved. The faculty here encourages us to explore different areas of research and not feel constrained to what we were "brought in" to do. They do, however, have pretty specific things that they focus on, but are willing to help team you up with professors in different departments to create personalized research plans."

"I am from a big city (Las Vegas) and had a bit of culture shock when I first got here. Lincoln is pretty well stocked for a small town, with ethnic restaurants and markets, but not very vegetarian friendly. Half the town becomes paralyzed when there's a football game. The biology graduate program is fine, we have some great faculty and a lot of women faculty which I appreciate. I would like there to be more interaction between labs and students, which is not very frequent. Depending on the lab though, the work load is usually manageable and the faculty are understanding and supportive. Overall, I think the graduate program is very good."

"Pros: There is a large number of students, so if a professors is not available to help, upper-class students are there to guide you. There is always something new to do whether it be a new research project or an interesting seminar/conference. Cons: If you don't currently have research being conducted, then there can be a lot of down time."
