"The best part about the graduate program is the flexibility. I am able to work full time and go to school which is essential. There are also different opportunities that allow you to study abroad even if you work full time, a pretty unique feature. There just doesn't seem to be many financial aid opportunities outside of loans."

"I have only done my first rotation semester and I feel that the level of the program is pretty high. However, I did chose the two most successful professors to do rotations with. They both seem to have a lot of money, which is very important to choose a lab."

"The civil engineering department, specifically geotechnical and structural specialties, is recognized internationally for a reason. The distinguished faculty at UNR make efficient use of a number of world class labs in engineering research. For example, the Earthquake Engineering Lab, the largest shake table lab in the country, allows for unique experiments to be performed not only because of the lab's size but because the tables can be run either in unison or separately. This is something nearly no other lab in the world offers. Furthermore, there are three geotechnical labs boasting a multitude of triaxial shear devices, ring shear, direct shear, consolidometers, large scale flexible/fixed wall soil containers for shake table or static tests, etc.. Aside from infrastructure, the faculty is amazing. Thanks to my advisor, I essentially had a dream internship plopped in my lap after my first year and it will likely lead to full time employment when I graduate (if I desire). Bottom line: UNR graduate civil engineering is top notch."

"In the fall of 2013, I packed up my life into the trunk of my parents' car and we made the seven hour drive from Pahrump to Reno, NV. I came the this school with high expectations since it was a big city, a big school, and a chance of being somewhere where everyone did not know my name. I was giddy with excitement. That was a year ago, and I can honestly say that that excitement has not worn off. I now live off campus, but the dorm that I lived in was wonderful. We had our own bathroom, A/C, and if there was ever a problem it was handled quickly. The food plan was not the best, but my roommates and I often traded swipes for water so we could stay hydrated from running all over campus. Speaking of, the campus up here is gorgeous. That was probably the number one selling point for me. There are trees everywhere, red brick buildings, and a blend of new and old all over the Reno campus. I knew i wanted to go to college somewhere pretty, and this was it. Also, the staff and faculty on campus are both so helpful. I have never ran into trouble asking for help or having questions answered. It is very clear where certain subjects are handled, such as financial aid questions in the Student Resource Center. Or math tutoring in the College of Education. Everything has its place and is easy to find. Finally, the professors I have met are all very willing to help and take the time to listen to their students. Office hours are definitely encouraged and even being in a lecture hall of 200 people, I do not feel like just a face in the crowd to them. I have felt that way since the beginning and even if i could choose over again, I would still pick to "Go Pack" and choose the University of Nevada-Reno."

"Set near the heart of Reno, Nevada, the University of Nevada Reno has provided me an exceptional experience on what to do for my future career in Psychology. I have taken classes that explore the different fields I would be able to apply myself to, so far social and cognitive psychology has grabbed my attention by my interest in learning about people. I find something interesting in learning about the way different people behave, think and develop throughout their life. Based on the multiple theorists I have been taught about, I should be able to guide myself toward the right field I would like to advance in. Along with knowledgeable lectures, the campus also has their own experimental labs they conduct with the community (even university students) and each lab I have participated in reveals what it would be like to be a social scientist while teaching a thing or two about myself. The University of Nevada Reno has the best college courses and programs that are above average for the learning experience."

"I have taken a couple of courses in the Marriage and Family Therapy Program (MFT) as a grad special student--meaning I was not formally admitted to the program. To describe the pros and cons is challenging. Thus far my experience with the MFT master's program has been very positive. The faculty are accessible, knowledgeable, and open to new and engaging ideas from the students in the program. The general Graduate school is very accommodating and easy with whom to work. Guidelines for acceptance to the general University Graduate School and to the MFT program are clearly laid out and easy to understand. Tuition costs are reasonable compared to similarly tiered schools. The only con I can think of this point in time is the University doesn't support a Ph.D. program for MFT's."

"My program is wonderful because of the sense of community within the program and the help offered not only by the faculty, but by the other students. UNR constantly brings in editors, publishers, and authors to help students learn about their projected careers and to interact with someone in the business. Unfortunately, this program does not yet have an MFA program, and students often leave after undergrad to find a program out of state that does."

"In my current tenure as a graduate student, I am especially thrilled to be studying at the University of Nevada, Reno’s Geography Department. The professors have already offered me a great deal of support and I look forward to learning from their expertise. The special camaraderie that exists between student colleagues in the department creates a vital platform for exchange of ideas."

"I believe that the program I am in certainly has pros and cons. The biggest con would be the faculty is very one track minded. This makes it hard for those of us who would like to see the other career fields offered to social workers. However, the school is ahead of its time regarding technology utilizing simulation labs etc."

"I am very lucky to be a part of the Behavior Analysis program at UNR. It is rated one of the top in the nation. The faculty are extremely supportive of all our academic and professional interests as well as personal. They care about our success. The numerous opportunities available to us as students are testaments to the program we are apart of. Research interests vary throughout the different labs and the chance to collaborate with other students and faculty outside UNR happens often. The only negative aspect is that we are not able to accept more students each year."

"Frankly, I got into 'fancier' schools. But what made me choose UNR and what has kept me happy with UNR is my department and the fantastic faculty (and staff!) that have helped shape my education and have geared me in the right direction for my academic and career goals. I am so pleased with my experience and I hope that this message helps others make the right decision in their education."
