"I have had an amazing amount of support and encouragement from the faculty and particularly from my mentor. There is a wide range of research interests on our campus and we have access to additional faculty on our north campus which is a bit more medical in nature. The campus has a diverse population and Albuquerque is a beautiful city that is perfect for those who enjoy out door activities and sports. Finally, we have an awesome basketball team and the football team is coming around. I highly recommend UNM."

"The academics in special education are great. The Professors are leaders in their fields nationally. I would recommend the special education graduate program to anyone looking for a rigorous and relevant program centered on social justice and fractaling best-practice to the graduate classroom."

"Academically, a great department. Professors are knowledgable and accessible. I'm not involved with athletics or student housing."

"UNM's science departments are great - we have some world class faculty, excellent students, and cutting-edge research. UNM's administration & bureaucracy leave much to be desired. They make submitting grant proposals much more difficult than at other R1 schools, take more in overhead than many other schools, and don't seem to value their top scientists. Campus technology is alright, but the science library closes at 5 or 6 on Fridays and Saturdays, so if you've got research to do that requires library material that can't be taken out of the library, you cannot work all weekend. Campus police don't do enough to keep the campus safe, especially given that campus is in a bad part of town. There is too much cross-listing of graduate classes and undergrad classes, so that it's very hard to find good science graduate classes that don't allow undergrads, too, which certainly decreases the intellectual rigor of the courses."

"While most of the programs and services are adequate, there is a general lack of excellence."

"The problems with on campus food and housing are neither quantity or quality, but price."

"UNM is a state school which like many other schools have sadly succumbed to the business model of education. Where too much money and resources is spent on getting students in rather than keeping them. Again, being a state school with the downed economy we are lacking in resources for research and conference travel, but several departments have become quite effective in gathering outside sources of funding. That said many departments have excellent faculty who take time for mentoring, co-authorship, and teaching exciting classes. Most students in the social sciences receive placements after degree completion, or even before. There is a limited amount of graduate student housing, which means an extremely long wait list."

"Great place to work with diverse populations, both with college students and in the community. I have not had much experience with campus housing or food. I love my program and I love my mentor- couldn't be happier!"

"UNM is an excellent choice for undergraduate or graduate school. The campus is richly diverse from faculty to students and one will receive a well-rounded and fulfilling educational experience at UNM. The programs offered are cutting edge and address a variety of interests and needs. Additionally, the faculty are well credentialed and are some of the country's leading experts in research and education. The atmosphere of the university at large is inviting and accesible. The faculty and support staff are always available and comitted to student success. I have felt well supported and educated to the highest level during my time as a graduate student and would highly recommend the university to any and all interested students!"

"I'm in the Psychology graduate program, specializing in neuroscience. I honestly don't know very much at all about the campus housing or the athletics. Faculty accessibility and support certainly vary by program. The city is pretty great, and the views are amazing. Great access to cutting-edge technology if you're doing neuroscience."

"The graduate program I am in is full of friendly and helpful people, but I find it hard to become socially involved with the school. UNM is very large and situated in the middle of a big busy city. Everyone just goes home and does their own thing after class instead of hanging around with other students."
