"I love the program here at Notre Dame. The facilities are exceptional and the faculty are top notch. They are always willing to listen and help with questions. South Bend is the biggest city in the area (about 2.5 hours from Chicago), and there aren't a lot of things to do other than go to the movies or hang out at the bar. However, I have found that I am usually not bored during my free time."

"I love the graduate school at Notre Dame. The faculty here are amazing, the financial compensations are terrific, and most of the facilities (not the Genomics Core) are exceptional. Professors are very approachable, very knowledgeable, and the department is growing. The Mass Spec facility is top-notch for the student population, the X-Ray and NMR facilities are also impressive (especially the 700 & 800 NMR). The major downfalls of the school are associated with the city of South Bend/Mishawaka. There is almost no public transportation or sidewalks in the surrounding area. Most entertainment is found in movies/bars, so for anything more cultural than that you need to hop on the train for Chicago (very affordable). On the flip side it is very affordable to live here; the stipend more than covers the basics plus room for saving. Diversity does suffer a bit, mostly Caucasians + a few Chinese students, but I think that is typical of a Midwestern institution. Overall I am thrilled with the work being done here and would recommend it to anyone."

"Great Professors. Great Alumni network and professional development opportunities. On-Campus excellent vibe though the surrounding South Bend area can be plain at times. Just a great family feel on campus."

"Start off with the cons; Surrounding area of South Bend is pretty dismal, and not much to do. But hey it's graduate school you don't go out much anyways. Pros, Lots of stores and food to get near by, great community based program, people are friendly, advisors and faculty are amazing to get along with and catch a beer with. The finaincial aid given here is super generous and of course the football. GO IRISH!!!"

"There are very few graduate students to complete with for internal funding and support. Notre Dame has some deep pockets and thus a lot of support to be found however socially and as far as location.. South Bend Indiana is not the greatest. Unless you're into football and Jesus, of which Notre Dame has PLENTY.. its a bit of a black hole. Chicago is the best thing around and it is not conveniently commutable."
