"I was thoroughly impressed with the quality of education I received at the University of Virginia, especially for the financial value. I also made a lot of great connections and was thoroughly prepared for the next step in life. The professors are all world class. They make themselves available to the students both during class time and outside of it. I could not recommend attending enough to those that have the opportunity."

"I am absolutely in love with MFA Acting program at the University of Virginia. I am only in my first year and yet I have been rewarded with so many opportunities! The MFA Acting program consists of classes in acting, voice, and movement. We are also very fortunate to have the opportunity to perform in a show beginning the second semester of our first year! Which in many schools does not happen until your second year. The Drama Department has also partnered with the UVA School of Nursing where I have been able to take part in a simulation exercise acting as a patient for a case study involving intimate partner violence. Additionally, I will soon work with the UVA Law School to play an eyewitness who has experienced violence and abuse. The work I am able to do here is meaningful and beneficial for helping train students at other schools within the university and personally rewarding for me. Ultimately, I love that I have a chance to do work that helps the community at large and I am very thankful and grateful for the opportunity."

"University of Virginia has outstanding professors who genuinely want you to succeed and learn. Although some classes are difficult, you come out of them knowing so much more than you did going into them. You can't beat the school's architecture and being on grounds is always a treat. Highly recommend this university for anyone who is interested."

"I am currently finishing my last semester of my bachelor's degree in speech language pathology and audiology. I think what makes our bachelor's program so great is the support from our faculty members and our tight knit community. We are able to work with our professors for usually more than just one semester and develop a great rapport with them. I also think that we are provided with a lot of hands on opportunities when using certain softwares or conducting certain projects (for example using boardmaker or praat). Due to my experience, I feel that I am prepared to excel and work with future clients in any graduate program that I choose."

"Attending the University of Virginia was a choice that I made as a high school senior, and one that I will always be happy with. The level of instruction, the campus life, and the people that I met are all a part of an unmatched undergraduate experience. The cognitive science major was a great choice for a blend of technical, natural, and behavioral sciences--and was a good degree to choose while also being a premed student."

"I was at UVA they have the best basketball team but that's it... if only TONY BENNETT was the dean... it cost me $40K a year and most of the the professors never had time for you. I Ironically even the expert on differentiation didn't differentiate. I had a STAT's 2 teacher who couldn't speak English clearly and no one in the department would help me understand the class - I went from an A+ in STAT 1 to a C-. I had an advisor who was verbally abusive, nuts - even got arrested for grand larceny, but he's still there. So please don't think that in-person universities are better. With the exception of 2 professors at UVA, my NCU professors have far surpassed the quality of instruction I received in UVA's doctorate program. My research writing has improved significantly because of the professors at NCU, and the books that they select and the sequential design of my program has allowed me to build one skill on top of the next. The feedback that I've received from most of the professors has been great. I used to ask for help at UVA and they called me lazy... they made me second guess my abilities during a serious medical issue and chemo brain... UVA professors called me lazy, and tried to kick me out of school, and I had a nervous breakdown from the stress. So when the only professor who had my back left, I left. NCU has much better about accommodating me. NCU - is a great bang for the buck, especially when compared to the money I paid at UVA and got very little back for it. Don't ever go to UVA grad school - Curry if you want to be something more than an academic slave."

"It is a lot of work but we'll worth the investment due to the instruction you get as well as networking opportunities. The city is also a great place to live however get used to walking because there is almost no parking on campus and you should get ready to rely on the buses."

"I enjoyed my time at UVA. The professors were engaging and appropriately challenged me. I enjoyed all of the extracurricular activities available. The campus is beautiful. Charlottesville is a small town and has grown a lot since I graduated in 2007. There are so many options for things to do off campus as well."

"I enjoyed my experience there, as the master's program I was in was a small one, so I had ample access to my professors and adviser. The college is also in a nice, historic location, where the cost of living is reasonable. Also, for my particular program, everyone was able to receive a fellowship or be a paid teaching assistant, so I did not come out owing anything for me Master's degree."

"UVA is a school with a southern, colonial charm. It's a large enough public university that it gives you the opportunity to choose from a lot of fields to study."

"Buyer Beware: It would be tough to recommend this school for a variety of reasons. First, class sizes are quite large (expect to be in core classes of 40+ students). To go with this, professors rarely read or provide substantive feedback on major course projects. Instead students are left feedback by fellow student TAs and this poses difficulties when many employers request writing samples. Second, experienced and often award winning professors teach few classes at the school. Instead, the school relies on very new faculty, sometimes without terminal degrees in the fields they teach, to convey material to students. Lastly, the school lacks substantive networks to help students secure employment (perhaps expected for a new school) and this is compounded by the fact that professors rarely if ever use their professional connections to help students get jobs. This, combined with ineffectual career services, causes many students to obtain employment far outside of the areas in which they are interested. These factors, combined with location, make the Batten School a poor choice for those truly passionate about pursuing careers in public policy. Instead, prospective students should look for opportunities in the DC area (or other area with policy jobs in which they are interested) to obtain meaningful, year-round internships that can lead to employment while still being fully engaged in the campus community."

"UVA is a uniquely special school, a wonderful "academic village" (as Thomas Jefferson called it) where students and faculty can join together to learn and grow. Virginia definitely prepared me for entering post-graduate life, and the great diversity of courses allowed me to understand different cultures from around the world and approach problems with a holistic mindset, rather than a narrow, one-sided focus. UVA is an amazing school with great opportunities, no matter what you major in, and Charlottesville is an awesome town to live in! Would highly recommend."

"Everything you've heard about UVa is true: the academics there are excellent and you have to be very intelligent (or incredibly hard-working) to succeed there, the mindset of a majority of the students is "work hard, play hard" so the weekends can get a bit wild (especially if you're involved in Greek life), and most of the students come from an upper middle class white NoVa background, so you have to expect the cliques and snobbery that comes along with that. If you're not willing to put in the work, aren't well-off, and/or are not outgoing and sociable, you will not enjoy UVa; but if rigorous classes and partying every weekend with your parents' money is your idea of a good time, you'll love UVa."
