"The UW-Madison Veterinary Program really strives to create a friendly, welcoming environment to new students and continuing ones. There is no sense of competition or trying to outdo others, and the staff at the Veterinary Medical Hospital are awesome and very understanding of what we are all going through."

"The faculty are amazing!! They are both well known in the field and in their specialties as well approachable and available. Being a state-school, paying in-state tuition is low compared to many other PT programs and the quality of education is definitely high. The program is focused a lot on evidence-based and clinic-based practice. Students are also encouraged to get involved with the APTA and legislation surrounding PT issues. Madison is a college city so it is relatively safe and easy to get around via walking, biking, public transportation, etc. The draw-back to being a college town is the lack of near-by affordable housing; however, if you don't mind taking a 30-minute bus ride every day there are nice, surrounding areas with lower rent."

"Pros: Very involved faculty that genuinely wants you to succeed and are willing to make sacrifices to help you to succeed. Students are very willing to help each other including creating study guides to share and forming study groups. 24/7 access to facilities. Some scholarships available during second and third years. Cons: The building, especially the labs, get very cold in the winter. No official opportunity to get to classmates prior to the Friday right before classes start. Not a very diverse group."

"UW-Madison does an excellent job of making sure the graduate community is exactly that - a diverse inter-connected community of students with a passion for their chosen field. The graduate program fosters creativity and vigor in both academic and outreach pursuits. Students are supported by academic staff and administrators who ensure that funding is obtained and that all student matters including housing and benefits are accounted for. Madison provides ease and comfort-of-mind for graduate housing. Students take an involvement not only in their own pursuits but in various philanthropic activities which benefit the local community with respect to science education for ushering in new generations of thoughtful scientists. The biomedical engineering program at UW is highly competitive with other top engineering schools in the country and world, and its graduate students pursue research projects that are diverse owing to the diverse research interests of its many faculty members. I have gotten great value from my graduate research through UW BME, and through built-in academic and clinical centers established at the university, students are enabled to work closely and collaborate with other faculty but also clinicians at UW hospital and clinics. This fosters collaborate research efforts that excel in depth and focus, putting the graduate students at a position primed for a top career in academia or industry."

"The department is the perfect size to really support a lot of different research topics, making it a cutting edge research institution, while still maintaining a great social community where everyone seems to know one another."

"The program in English (literary studies) offers a wonderful diversity in theoretical approaches and historical specialties. The faculty are amazing and consistently invested in student success. The campus is a delightful learning environment, and Madison as a whole is an exciting place to live - the perfect mix of cosmopolitan opportunities and small town friendliness! The program is firmly geared toward becoming a professor, providing extended teaching experience and mentoring in academic research. Through this, the program provides targeted direction to grad students, but if you want to consider other career options with your English PhD, you may have to go out of your way to find advising."

"Wisconsin Sociology is a top program in the field and offers an outstanding educational preparation to those intent on pursuing an academic career in the discipline. If you are a competitive applicant and gain admission to this program, it should be one of your top choices for PhD study. That said, there are a number of drawbacks to the program. The funding situation, atrocious in the past, has recently gotten marginally better. New incoming cohorts are guaranteed 5 years of funding in the program. This new policy provides stability, but it does not make for complete security. This program is quite intense, and the median time to graduation is 7-8 years. The baseline funding guarantee is for a 20-hour per week TA position. Compared to other top sociology programs, this represents a whole lot of extracurricular work. And the pay is quite bad! 14K/year is barely enough to keep one's head above water. If you're choosing between here and stanford, havard, princeton, chicago... you should take this into account when making your decision."

"After coming to Madison I fell it difficult to comprehend why anyone would leave. The people here are not only kind, they want you to succeed. The resources are expansive and the location could not be any better. There is a certain flow here that feels like progress in the department is always being made. Hours can be long but that is to be expected no matter where grad school is attended. Wisconsin-Madison is rated highly in US News and World Report for grad school sciences, and I see first-hand why exactly that is so."

"The PhD and Masters programs in Statistics at UW-Madison is a good mix of theory and applications. The school emphasizes building a strong foundation in theoretical mathematical statistics during the initial years and then use the background to apply statistics in different areas of science, engineering, medical sciences, etc. With world class faculty all around the campus, this is one of the best places to get a graduate degree from."
