Student & Graduate Reviews

"This graduate program has given me the opportunity to gain a deeper knowledge base of the public health field, as well as fostered my passion for topics in public health. I feel a great strength of this program includes the small class size, and the positive relationships fostered between student and instructor. While these facts holds true, the financial burden of pursuing a graduate degree can be discouraging."

"Needs to improve clinical assignment but great professors."

"Upstate has a very high level of expectation of the students academically. This gives us a great advantage as we go out in clinic because we will be better prepared and have higher success. The cons of the program are that the cost of living on campus is relatively high, especially for the area that the apartments are located in. Health insurance is also incredibly high, so most have to look for other resources. Overall I think Upstate is a great school, has great professors, and gives us the best opportunity to succeed."

"It's a very affordable university however, the saying, "You get what you pay for" is more than apparent in this case."

"SUNY Upstate Medical University has a very family-oriented atmosphere. Though all MD programs are competitive, you'll find that students here are cutthroat. The campus is adjacent to that of Syracuse University and is pretty accessible to the downtown area. It isn't a very vibrant city, but you're often too busy to notice. The quality of education here is excellent, particularly as an in-state student. All of the courses are taught in a very clear, organized format."

"SUNY Upstate medical university is a good value for medical education. New York State residents will enjoy in-state tuition, as will out-of-state residents after one-year. The other major pro of this university is the mentoring and availability of academic advisors and faculty. They are invested in their students. Syracuse is also a nice place to live with reasonable cost-of-living and the benefits of a college town with Upstate NY outdoor activities. The cons are limited to the average academic rankings of the institution and the long central NY winters."
