"One of the major benefits of the program is the full-time faculty members who are revitalizing the program. A con is the balance between evening, morning, and online courses offered."

"Our Program was recently NASPAA accredidated, which is a huge plus when obtaining a Masters Degree. The professors of our program are very professional, yet approachable when pertaining to our work. As far as cons of the program, the biggest one is having to purchase so many expensive books."

"The M.P.A program at Western Carolina University is exceptional. The program was just recently accredited by NASPA for 7 years, which is the maximum amount of time a program can receive at one time, which is a very big deal. The faculty in the department are amazing and very insightful and helpful. I wouldn't want to go anywhere else. The area is beautiful, and WCU is the #1 college for outdoor activities. The only con I can honestly think of is the financial aid situation for graduate students. On top of having to pay for books there isn't much aid to be offered to us to help pay tuition or books, other than graduate assistantships."

"WCU is an excellent school for many things. Natural Resources is not their strongest point unfortunately. However they do have many excellent degrees in other areas."

"Out of state tuition is extremely high. That is the one negative thing I have to say. The college itself is really amazing and has professors and faculty that are very willing to help."

"The first semester was totally overwhelming, but I managed great grades. The professors are great. The location is pretty remote, but it is a beautiful area with a lot of outdoor activities."

"This program allows the student to meet and work with top notch historians and develop into a quality professional. The drawback revolves around a specific focus upon Southern history and the twentieth century United States. Students looking to research other fields will have difficulty with this."

"The pros are that my major professors are extremely knowledgeable and passionate about what teach. Also, my classes are small enough to get personal attention yet large enough create a new social network. I truly enjoy what I am studying even though it is a complex topic. The cons are that there is no public transportation to campus so I am reliant on someone to take me there, also the technology that the school is using could be better (email, scanners and student computers, etc.)."

"Western Carolina University's physical therapy program is in their brand new heath sciences building and includes state of the art facilities and equipment. The teachers are also helpful and friendly, but push us to learn at a high level of proficiency. The only real con of the school that immediately comes to mind is it's location. While beautiful and outdoorsy, it is woefully far from any cities of significant size."

"The Pros of the program are that the faculty are willing to go above and beyond to help the students out. The program is at the satellite campus in Asheville. I live in Asheville so it is closer then driving to Cullowhee, NC. The material I engage in is exciting and sparks my interest. The cons of the program are that it is geared towards the working class. Classes are at night and because I am a bartender, I have to quit my job in order to go to school."

"The program itself is very excellent and the faculty is very helpful. However it is very difficult to find affordable housing and financial aid here, especially if you have a family."

  • Degree: Emergency Management
"Non-profit schools are the ticket. A great education at an affordable price at a state supported regionally accredited institution, what a deal. The annual tuition rate is wrong on this site however. 1 credit hour is only $134.00 so you can do the math. The Emergency Management program has 9 required classes (27 credit hours) in the program. You do have to take 30 credit hours of upper level classes at WCU so you may have to take a couple extra because EDM 250 is a lower level class and doesn't count toward this requirement. So by taking the required classes you end up with 24 upper level hours so then you make up the other 6 hours with 2 upper level EDM electives. The remaining 87 credit hours of general education and electives classes can be taken at a community college and transferred in at an even lower cost. So you can really get the degree and only spend around $4400 for it at WCU, of course that doesn't count the community college cost. This is what I have done and its worked great."
