"Winston-Salem State University ReviewProgram: Accounting and Business Management (Master's Degree) Graduation Year: 2015 Overall Rating: ★★★★☆The business program of the Winston-Salem State University was of high quality value and preparation, in regard to my future professional career. Being one of the 2015 graduates, currently having a master degree in Accounting and Business Management, I can state without any doubts that the education I obtained was both wide and applicable. The curriculum was properly structured combining both the accounting basics and the business management aspects. The rigor of the core courses involving accounting included financial accounting, cost accounting and taxation helped in the preparation of CPA since the depth in the teaching of these areas was advanced. The business management element was the ideal extension of this base where I learned about organization behavior, strategic planning and leadership capabilities that remain useful in my career. The quality of the faculty has also been high and the professors were able to introduce real world experience in the classroom. The number of students in the classrooms was reasonable, usually between 15-25 students which enabled the teacher to plan specific time to interact with each student. The majority of the instructors were sincerely interested in the success of students and kept open office hours in order to provide further assistance.WSSU was an HBCU and it offered a very special supportive and culturally rich environment. School pride and networking relationships were also established strong among the students due to the campus community. Business build up facilities were in good order and library facilities satisfactorily covered required research works. What was unique in the program was its affordability amid its competitors in the region, the universities. The cost of tuition was affordable, the good education is affordable without being buried in debt. There was also career services, which would help with job placement, but I think active networking and internship searching were also vital to getting post-graduation opportunities. The degree made the door open to several accounting and business management jobs. The local job placement was assisted by the reputation of WSSU in the region especially in North Carolina and Southeast. Yet, the students who intend to work elsewhere do not necessarily have the easy time gaining credentials with employers they do not know very well. The weaknesses can be observed in the form of less addressed current accounting software and business analytics technology, which have become more critical in the modern market. Increased opportunities in terms of practical experience would also be present as evidenced by increased internship related partnerships with major corporations. The business program at WSSU is a recommendable program in this sense I would strongly advise another student aiming at receiving quality education at an affordable price in a favorable environment like WSSU. Academic setting and distinguished faculty support, combined with positive community feel, formed a pleasant educational experience that lead me to success in the working place. The program is specifically fitting to students that are looking to have a career in the Southeast where WSSU has developed great relationships with employers."

"Attending and graduating Winston Salem State University was A humbling experience. I didnt know that i would become the woman I am today..If I was to go back 4 years from now and become a incoming freshman all over again, I would not believe that I would accomplish all of the things that I have accomplished today. I have studied abroad, I have been an active member of multiple organizations, I have been a student leader, I was hired within multiple departments. The TRIO program, the provost, the study abroad program, and the student support services program has positively changed me. I will always remember those that have paved the way for me. The faculty members have worked tirelessly to ensure that I am okay academically, mentally, psychically and financially. I will forever be indebted to Winston Salem State University. I will always remember those individuals who stayed after work and made sure that I understood the material. I will always remember those that worked patiently with disability services and worked around my disability. At one point of my academic career, I wanted to give up on my education. The faculty members had a sit down with me to ensure that all my worries and frustrations were quickly resolved. During business hours, I could always depend on them to be in their offices and to be present. They also were extremely authentic and said things that I needed to hear-not what I wanted to hear. Meaning, if I needed to study harder and longer, then they told me what I needed to do. The University is also is a small campus and all the buildings were easy to find. It is a family oriented university and embraces all families that arrive at WSSU."

"Winston-Salem State University is one of the best historically black universities in North Carolina! I attended Winston-Salem State University 2011-2015 and received a degree in Birth-Kindergarten Education. Although I had just turned eighteen when I began my undergrad experience and was hours away from my family, State managed to provide a nurturing environment. Freshmen, traditional and non-traditional, moved in and attended sessions a week before upper level students returned back to school. This allowed freshmen to begin their first year minimizing factors of being overwhelmed. During these sessions we were provided mentors, the best of the best upperclassman to help acclimate us to campus. These mentors are called Legacy Leaders. Legacy Leaders has been a tradition at WSSU for many years and continues. Mentors, along with professors and other leaders taught us history of the school, gave tours, talked to us about real life situations, and signed us up for classes. One of the best things that many student love is the support from advisors and other faculty. They want to see their students succeed in all aspects of life. The campus is the perfect size, not too big and not too small and is continuing to grow. There are a plethora of undergrad as well as graduate programs. The nursing program is one of the top in the state. The food is warm food and they have a great selection as well as tasty traditions, Chicken Wednesday and Fried Fish Friday! From academics to a welcoming environment, Winston-Salem State University is a great school!"

"I was a distance learning student, RN-BSN at Winston-Salem State University. Going into the program, I had heard from various people that you do not learn much from a RN-BSN program, as it is mostly writing papers. I feel like I gained a vast amount of new knowledge that I can carry into my future career, particularly in the business class. The instructors were always helpful and replied in a timely manner. As an individual who had to pay out of pocket for my education, with minimal financial assistance, I feel that it was the best option for me."

"This was a great school for me to learn hard life lessons and build great character. I learned how to be independent and to utilizes the resources that are available. The organization of the school itself does need a lot of work. The staff was not properly trained nor informed. At times staff did not seem helpful. The professor professionalism was not good and the culture of the school seemed very relaxed."

"I am very fortunate to have been accepted into the accelerated BSN program, and although it was slightly unorganized and poorly laid out at times, the classes and professors prepared me well for the whirlwind and often overwhelming career that is nursing."
