I started in the Spring of 2021 and so far its been challenging at best. The curriculum is not theory or written based. It consist of a lot of proctored exams that students pay for that cost (approx $18.00) and if you have more than one course then you do the math. Being someone that has some academic experience I was not aware that the ECU MBA is a follow - up to their undergrad courses. The professor's have been there for quite a while and have not changed the material for several semesters so your completing... Read More the same assignments that other students have completed for the last 2 - 3 years. I really do not comprehend how professors can read the same answers to materials that is constantly being reciprocated. These are professors who have attended top tiered and ivy leagued universities who hold academic titles and acronyms such as Deans; Associate Professors; Department Chairs; PHD's EDD's MBA, MS etc. There is no way that a university that requires a GRE/GMAT as a entry level testing standard should have students completing an extension of undergrad coursework. I am in shock and dismayed by this revelation and I should/could transfer but fear that other universities have the same teaching styles and learning modules and won't change data in order to become more relevant. Degrees that can propel careers and change financial situations should be the ultimate goal of education facilities but many have not proven they can raise up to the challenge. Sadly ECU has failed and the US Department of Education should be extremely worried about the negative level of educational benchmark that these universities offer.

I transferred to ECU after my sophomore year at Presbyterian College in Clinton, NC. I transferred because the college felt too small and they didn't have many professors teaching in the department that I was interested in. The dean of the Sociology department and the professors in it were great! This major prepared me well for my calling as a pastor in ways I didn't anticipate. Read More various areas of church history which included early church history. I've continued to be interested in church history down through the years even at age 63. I also find myself assessing social issues today in 2021 in light of the social/political issues of my preteen and teen years in the 60's and 70s! I remember one lecture in American history about the Great Depression. I remember that beneath it was a lot of greed which led to people going into great debt in order to make even more from the market. I consider it the best sermon I had heard at that time as to how the love of $ was the root of much evil. All, the lecture needed was some scripture and a call to repent at the end. Campus life was great and living in Umstead dorm, a co-ed dorm back then, was like being a part of a large family which was fine with me. The school cafeteria was not a great as when our oldest son attended ECU for his first degree there. Thus, I asked my dad for the same amount of money that the school cafeteria plan cost. I ended up eating better by eating my own food and finding other places to eat like local churches and campus church groups along with awesome places like Venter's grill which meant that I also ate for less and that gave me gas $ for my car. While I did not play intermural sports, I took advantage of the opportunities provided by ECU to exercise. My dad claimed that after my junior year that I was in semi-Olympic shape. Also, my grades went up at the same time. I became a leader of a campus Christian group who sought to pull together the other groups for both a campus wide prayer meeting and to bring Christian music groups to campus. I was pleasantly surprised to see in the older ECU Year Books that in the past there were photos of the different Christian campus groups in them. One thing, I did find through my broad involvement in the Christian community on campus was as a whole it did not have the depth of commitment as the campus Christian community at Presbyterian College, yet I was in touch with a very committed core some of whom I am still in touch with now. One of my Christian friends who lived in the co-ed dorm behind Umstead Dorm said that he was greatly encouraged when he saw me on campus on days when he thought the whole school was going to hell. I found the city of Greenville to be a very nice place to be part of. I met with various groups in town through whom I met many of the businessmen of the city. The local churches near the campus were very supportive. One Baptist Church in particular had a Wednesday night fellowship meal which welcomed ECU students for a very low price. All in all, I ate meals with any church or campus Christian ministry that fed people. Those were also the days of the house church movement which I participated in. It was a good and yet unique experience in my Christian journey. There are nice people who own homes a street or two off of 5th street who rent rooms to students. I found one that was a great place to live with a roommate. While at ECU I had the experience of finding out just how great a hospital the then, Pitt County Hospital with the ECU med school was. On April 28, of 1978, I was in an almost fatal bicycle accident on College Hill street as a freshman walked out from between two parked cars. The care I received was awesome and several of my nurses were also classmates.
