Male DMS Student

"On the surface, the reputation of this program is quite impressive. They are mentioned in most publications at the top when discussing the best places to go to study ultrasound. This reputation was a major deciding factor in my application and attendance to this program. However, once I was in the program the truth started to come out. First, the previous group of students in the same program only graduated 8 of 22 students. My group only graduated 14 of 20. The directors overestimate their ability to teach the amount of material that they attempt to cover, often having to rush through presentations in order to finish on time. The available lab resources are technologically adequate, but the available lab time for completing assignments is incredibly lacking and often times dependent upon the availability of outside sonographers who are paid to come in so the lab hours can be extended. If you are a male, and you are interested in this program, you should look ANYWHERE else before applying. It is my opinion that the instructors do not have much interest or experience in teaching male students, and they do not prepare you for the challenges you will face as a male ultrasound student during your clinicals. The program's available clinical sites are very limited and, in my opinion, the clinical experiences vary tremendously depending upon who you are and where you are accepted. Almost all of the clinical sites are ones that have former STI grads as preceptors, so their assessments are anything but objective (also my opinion). I would encourage anyone looking at this program to seriously consider other options before applying. If you go ahead with it, good luck. I warned you."

"This was the absolute worst program. The nursing instructors do not care about you and have the most stupid rules. They are unfair in grading and unrealistic. The professors will say you can not do something but then do it right in front of you. They do not care if you fail or succeed, they only want the pay check. Some example of bad or unfair grading include: A student was docked 3 points because they yawned at clinical, A student got into an car accident and was injured but still went to clinical. They made her leave because she was a little late and she lot all point for that day even tho she had a police report and a hospital report. A student got a 50% deduction due to there phone beeping in her bag at the begging of class, she did not check or even touch her phone. We also had a few students to needed to pump during clinical and the OB instructor told them that they are not able to pump during class. We have also had multiple time when teachers are on their phones, have their jewelry in and have tattoos showing and nails painted but if we do any of those things you lose 50% of your daily grade. This program is awful and some instructor have no idea what they are doing. I definitely would NEVER recommend this school!!!"
