"Overall I believe SJSU is a great school, there are some people in the administration department that I feel are inadequate for their job, however I don't believe the whole system should be graded on them alone. On the other hand I have run into difficulties trying to get my paperwork together and getting answers from my department which is why I scored them as such."

"The reason to go the San Jose State for the geology program is that they have amazing professors. Their financial aid packages are not great, and they don't have many fancy machines, but you can get a great education."

"I would say the pros definitely out weigh the cons at the SJSU Philosophy graduate program. The cons seem to be outlying factors that come with living in San Jose. The cost of living is pretty high and the neighborhoods are pretty sketchy. The University doesn't have enough housing for graduate students and is pretty light on the financial aid to help with both housing and tuition. The pros ,however, can be seen in the highly qualified instructors. The Professors at SJSU, specifically in the Phil dept., are highly knowledgeable, well versed in their studies, and keen on challenging students to aspire to greatness. I don't think I could be happier in any other program."

"Every Early Childhood Special Education instructor has been knowledgeable and supportive. Our program advisor does an amazing job connecting us to potential career opportunities and continuing education. The program is small and it is easy to connect with both classmates and instructors."

"I believe that the program is a really great program. The quality of education I have received so far has exceeded any expectations I had. The program really values reflection and honesty. The faculty are very approachable and helpful when it comes to questions or concerns. So far i have enjoyed my time at San Jose State University and very glad as well as honored to be in such a program. So far I have had a positive experience with the program. I have met wonderful people who are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of others. I really couldn't have asked for more."

"San Jose State University itself is of decent but middling quality. The Sociology Department, however, is outstanding. The faculty are accessible and dedicated to training good scholars."

"I just started the grad program; I guess the con is that I had to do a lot of unnecessary upper division classes, but I am learning a lot."

  • Degree: Communications (Speech Pathology)
"Located in the heart of the Silicon Valley, SJSU provides hands-on experience and natural diversity that cannot be duplicated anywhere else. Specifically, the Communicative Disorders and Sciences program prepares their students for a future in Speech Pathology by giving them clinical experiences at both the undergraduate and graduate level. Although challenging, the program is extremely rewarding to work in a diverse community with various levels of need. I have worked hard to be where I am today, and I feel that the department and school acknowledge and appreciate me and all 20,000 other students who call this campus home."

  • Degree: Biology
"This program is all about specializing in marine science by taking highly refined coursework taught by prominent researchers, having access to gaining exceptional field research experience through courses or the network of graduate students, and having the ability to craft a high-impact thesis research project. The cons of this program is that faculty rarely have guaranteed funding for students so many stay for up to 4-5 years and have to work outside of the lab. Others are more fortunate and can obtain research assistantships or jobs at the lab not related to their research. Its highly recognized for turning out well-trained scientists, students often get accepted to PhDs of their choice or land jobs in the area due to the network with local marine science institutions."

  • Degree: Aerospace Engineering
"The Aerospace Engineering graduate program does not seem as respected as it should be. Students are very friendly in the department and seem to be motivated. There is an extremely low women to men ratio, however. The professor in charge of the program is very inspiring and makes his students work hard which is valuable"

"It's a great program but there isn't much action in the department after 5pm. That can make being a part time student difficult to get to know what is going on in the department and to meet with your professors."

"Tell us about your college experience. My college experience closely matched what I have done in my career. The school was a good fit because it was in Silicon Valley where a lot of tech companies are based and the education matched the area.Would you get the same degree if you could start over?Yes, because that field has been very very good for me.What advice can you offer other students?Go for what they are interested in and what makes them happy."

"The program is truly designed to prepare the student to enter a diverse and competitive work force. Classes embrace real life situations in order to enhance individual thinking while encouraging collaborative work with one's co-students. While the growth of the program is positive, there are only a few graduate faculty spread among a growing number of cohorts. Lastly, it's hoped that over time, graduate-level electives will be offered."
