"Pitt Law is a very well balanced school. They seem to leverage their alumni network to attempt to help their students succeed. Where they fail, however, is adequately preparing their students for testing. The teachers seem to assume that everyone has taken law school exams before and that throws a lot of people off, starting with their first semester. Overall, however, I feel that my choice to come to Pitt Law was a good one. I think that, outside of the classroom, I have a great opportunity to get ahead in the legal field as a Pitt Law grad."

"Tell us about your college experience.I loved my college and still go back to visit. It was in a city with a very large campus. I loved the city atmosphere and the wide range of things to do outside of the classroom. It was a nice community nestled in the big city, so it was a perfect mix of city life and comfort. I loved the sports teams and went to games with other fans. It was a perfect fit for me, I had a ton of fun and didn't want to graduate!Would you get the same degree if you could start over?If I went back, I would probably try to specialize my degree more instead of just a broad pre-med degree, but it worked just fine getting me into medical school, so I am perfectly happy with it!What advice can you offer other students?Do what you love, even if it requires more work than you think you can handle. If you want it, it will be worth it in the end."

"There are a lot of resources available to students in the form of faculty and staff. The people here are friendly and knowledgeable, and my classmates are some of the most intelligent people I have ever met. The quality of the education is beyond what I could have asked for and the school itself is always seeking to improve the curriculum and way it is ran."

"The University of Pittsburgh offers a very prestigious and rigorous program in the field of Prosthetics and Orthotics. This rising field is becoming more important with the rise in health related and combat related amputations and deformities. The University of Pittsburgh is a top choice for education quality and will introduce me into the work force with a solid foundation of prestige, work ethic, and a competitive edge. As family is one of the most important things to me, the only con of attending the University of Pittsburgh is the distance separating me from my family while I attend school."

"It is a great program that really challenges you, and it really encourages students to go beyond the roles of the typical pharmacist. However, the program is not very diverse, and there is not much financial aid to go around."

  • Degree: Psychology
"Pros: I am in the Cognitive Psychology program and have been well-supported by the faculty I work with on various projects, as well as my peers and colleagues in the lab. There is a heavy focus on preparing the necessary research skills (research conceptualization, data collection, analyses, writing, etc.) and research experience. Many professors focus on publications and conference presentations, which serve students well when they apply for future positions. Students are generally fully funded through a GSR or TA position. Cons: Because there is a focus on paper and conference submissions, I have often found myself juggling different projects with relatively heavy work loads. While this might feel like a negative thing some days, it also prepares me to understand how to work across different projects, how to organize my work, and how to draw appropriate boundaries in my academic life."

  • Degree: Biomedical Engineering
"I am a 3rd year PhD student in the Bioengineering program at UPitt. The program consistently ranks among the top programs in the country and offers excellent research opportunities to work with top researchers in the field. Pittsburgh offers a small city experience without the bustle of larger cities. The area of the school is safe and fairly affordable. One challenge that is facing many labs is a lack of funding due to austerity measures enacted by the federal government."

"It was a perfect fit. Had the nice balance of a campus and a city, plenty of clubs and activities, and excellent academic programs. I would not choose a different degree but I would definitely take more courses that require learning technical skills. I would have taken more photoshop classes and statistical courses. Throughout college assess what your skills and strengths are and work to build upon those. Be sure to challenge yourself socially and academically. Take advantage of the opportunities that are provided to you and don't be afraid to make connections with professors."

"There needs to be more aid or scholarships available to students to defer the cost. Pittsburgh is a relatively inexpensive city to live and as a result makes the school more affordable."
