"The pro is the very friendly and helpful grad school atmosphere. The Political Science department grad students are very helpful and the faculty is always there for you to help. I think the program is preparing me in the best way possible for a very competitive job market. The cons is, in light of recent events, that the safety of the campus has come under scrutiny."

"It is a relatively quiet college town, but beautiful natural resources for outdoor activities. It is a little bit difficult to build a social life here because it is small. However, I love my program for the high quality of knowledge and good resources for clinical training."

"Great program. Could use some streamlining and improved communication as far as entering students is concerned but overall top notch."

"Recent new of what occurs as well as what has occurred on campus causes me to second guess how safe the campus is. Not much specific guidance as to what you can do with your PhD after you graduate. Everything leads to postdocs."

"University of Virginia provides wonderful support and faculty access to their students. I ALWAYS feel safe on campus. The surrounding area offers a variety of outdoor activities to keep me entertained but the campus life has little to offer for me in this aspect. Housing seems to be a bit on the pricey side regardless of the year built and amentities provided."

"The BIMS program utilizes the umbrella program to include a diverse field of medical sciences and provide education about all of these fields to each incoming class. All PhD students enroll in a "Core Course" which runs from 9AM-4PM each day for 10 weeks, in which we learn about all relevant medical research disciplines: cancer, microbiology, immunology, pharmacology, neurobiology, developmental biology, etc. It serves as a great foundation to start your research lab work. The faculty are so willing to help and care about teaching, as opposed to just doing research, which is very refreshing at a large research institution."

"I like Uva in general, but I don't like the chemistry department, C G, who is in charge of the general chemistry class now, is a nightmare to work with, being a teaching assistant in that class killed all my interest in teaching, and hence academia, a lot of TAs suffered from that course, and G is still there torturing everyone. He is the blacksheep in this department. Unfortunately almost all graduate stusent has to be a TA in his class during the first year."
