"The University of Virginia offers a multitude of opportunities for the students to succeed. The staff cares deeply about each students success and goes out of their way to help the students. Career services is always available to assist the students for upcoming interviews, fairs, and etc. The biggest struggle at the University for me is ensuring that I have tuition covered."

"There are certainly many pros! I love that the area is a college town and college friendly everywhere you go. The restaurants all around the area sport the UVA logo and there is a ton of school pride. There's so much to do in the area from Thomas Jefferson's Monticello to Downtown and the Corner, to wineries and breweries all within a short drive. In terms of the school itself, every office I have walked into with questions have all greeted me with a smile and have been extremely helpful, sometimes going out of their way to make sure they answer or assist in what you need. The professors all have strong backgrounds in the field and help transition you into the real world and jobs afterwards, which is definitely a plus!"

"I was a student at the University of Virginia from the Fall of 2009 to the Spring of 2013. What a great experience! In my first year, I made so many new friends, took a lot of interesting classes that helped me solidify my goals, and joined University Salsa Club which provided me with my own kind of fraternity. I learned a lot while at UVA, but the greatest part was the social aspect and everything I gained from UVA outside the classroom. I wouldn't trade that experience for the world!"

"Good program that is very into actual policy work, and less so on the theoretical side. Teachers tend to have real world experience which is extremely helpful. The administrative side of the program was a bit confusing and could be streamlined to make it easier to understand why courses are being taught or decisions made."

"The Batten School of Leadership & Public Policy is still in its early stages of development, so the administration is open to student feedback. However, tuition just skyrocketed to make the school competitive with top policy schools, making Batten less accessible. Because the school is still developing, there are some drawbacks and the structure is still changing."

"The best part of the FNP program at UVA is your first year is all didactic. Then the second year is when you have clinicals and it's the entire year. You don't have a women's health clinical, then a peds clinical, etc. You do your clinical at a clinic of your choosing that focuses on primary care and then you stay there and see whatever pts come in. The cons are if you have to work while in school it can be stressful. But other than that, I love the program and the professors are fantastic and very accessible and approachable."

"I am currently in the Frank Batten School of Leadership and Public Policy Accelerated Masters Program. This program's curriculum is rigorous, engaging, and comprehensive, and allows you to pursue your specific interests within the field of public policy while also giving you the broad groundwork and tools to succeed with a fantastic set of core classes. After completing this program in May 2016, I feel I will be prepared for, and competitive within, any career path in public policy. The Frank Batten School is a wonderful academic choice that is affordable and encouraging to your intellectual development, with a welcoming and supportive culture."

"Mostly, I find that there are pros to this program. They work closely and understandingly with teachers who are currently in the classroom, to provide a graduate experience that is manageable and competitive. I feel supported as well as praised for my ability to continue my education (in the field of education), while doing what I love, teaching."

"Pros: -we have windows in our spacious offices -nice faculty to student ratio -tea time (professors and graduate students come) -Experts in multiple fields -Guaranteed summer funding if you are doing something math related. You don't have to teach for this money. Cons: -I am sure every school has a couple professors who have horrible pedagogy."

"As graduate students, we tend to view our peers as collaborators rather than competitors. We believe that the best-case scenario would be for all of us to succeed, and we are willing to help each other out through reading groups, writing groups, emotional support, etc. The faculty are kind, helpful, and brilliant. Although they do not socialize with the graduate students outside of official functions, they are available and accessible if you need anything or just want to check in about how things are going. Overall, the department atmosphere is welcoming, supportive, and intellectual. The funding package is sufficient to live on during the school year and includes free health insurance that covers quite a bit with little out of pocket, but summer funding is somewhat difficulty to come by. Classes are hard and a lot of work, but they should be. I have learned so much since I got here. There is some career support, including seminars and a placement coordinator, but a bit more could probably be done in this area. It is assumed that you will be seeking an academic job after graduating, although our proximity to D.C. does give you some opportunities for cultivating relationships in the policy world. We could do more to pro-actively foster diversity, although I do not believe there is a hostile attitude towards any race, gender, or background. Charlottesville is a large town/small city that I enjoy living in. It has a decent nightlife and amazing opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, caving, climbing, biking, etc."

"The main pro is that the quality of courses offered is quite high, and I feel that the graduate program prepares students very well, in an average. The main con, as far as I'm concerned, is that not many advanced courses are usually offered in my specific research field, due to the limited number of faculty members in my department who specialize in this subject."
