"Curry's Educational Psychology: Applied Developmental Science program strives to provide opportunities for individuality in selecting a path in coursework/internships. My adviser responded promptly to any questions and was willing to make time to sit down and discuss future career goals and ways to mesh the program with connections for life after graduation. I was drawn to the research and projects involving ways to test and improve many aspects of educational and personal lives of today's youth. Although it is a relatively new program, I feel that faculty listen to needs of students and try to foster the growth of the courses and opportunities with each upcoming semester. Students can make this program fit their goals in a variety of ways, all with the idea of finding a way to improve the world around them. The only drawback of any program in the education field is the sad realization that there is not as much money to fund future leaders in this field as compared to business and other higher education tracks. Service and humanities programs may have to put in more money and time with less financial payback in the end and find satisfaction instead with knowing that they are making a difference."

"As a first year student, I am truly enjoying my time here. The curriculum is fantastic and the faculty/administration are very supportive. I have learned so much and am continually challenged to think critically and holistically when presented with a case. I have developed skills related to physician competency as well as humanism, and am confident that this school is preparing me to be the best physician I can be."

"The relatively small program left for a very intimate and collaborative environment among students while also allowing us to develop close relationships with our mentors, who are leaders in the field of Kinesiology. Additionally, the program provided solid clinic experiences and opportunities which helped prepare me for medical school. On the down side, the resources and facilities were not the most ideal or for the particular program. Overall, it was a great program, with incredible people, in an awesome town."

"The University of Virginia is an amazing, world-renowned institution that definitely holds true to these accolades once you experience more of the university after becoming a student. The courses are rigorous; the professors are experts and expect informed, new research from each of their students. Students, both graduate and undergraduate, are held to high standards and it forces students to step up and meet these goals set for them. I can tell that the education I am receiving is going to prepare me for any academic hurdle or situation that comes my way in the future. The University of Virginia creates tough, intelligent future researchers, professionals, and educators by pushing them intellectually from the moment they step on Grounds, all while lending a helping hand."

"The University of Virginia is currently, and has historically been, one of the leading PhD programs in the field of Kinesiology/Sports Medicine. The program has produced numerous graduates who have subsequently embarked on noteworthy career paths. The program excels at producing leading research in the field, allowing students flexibility in designing their class schedules, and exceptional graduate assistantships. The only drawback I can see in this program is the sheer amount of work that each student is involved in. If the student is able to successfully manage his or her time and prioritize commitments he or she will succeed in this prestigious program."

"I attend the University of Virginia's Curry School of Education at the Northern Virginia campus. I'm pursuing a Reading Specialist Certificate. I feel very lucky to take classes in person versus on-line that's close to my current teaching position. The best part about taking classes at Curry is getting new ideas from other teachers in the field."

"It's a small department, and the faculty are top notch and give students their whole attention. The surroundings are beautiful, and the community is fantastic. My only con is that it's difficult to get around outside of the city."

"UVA is very humane in its treatment of its medical students-- medical students are generally unhappy and less stressed than those in other places. Professors are brilliant and tend to be nice (every school has a few malignant apples). The NexGen curriculum got off to a shaky start but seems to get better with each year. The med school and hospital are adjacent to the undergrad campus which make you genuinely feel like a part of Mr. Jefferson's university. It also makes collaboration with people from other specialties and school easier. The global health program is always improving and innovating-- at least a quarter of fourth year students are doing some sort of away and getting financial support for it. The spirit of community service, on the whole, is strong as is the collegiality."

"Best parts: -Social life is amazing- so much to do in CVille! -Class time is only 8:10am-12pm every day! -Accelerated program: Only 1.5 years in the classroom before moving on to clerkships. This means an extra 6 months of electives! -Students are encouraged to work together, share resources, collaborate... and having a TRUE Pass-Fail curriculum allows us to do just that! We have googledocs created just to share ideas, mnemonics, study guides, helpful links, etc and work together on learning objectives. -PASS FAIL -4 years on the "Next Gen Curriculum" so it is one of the few programs in which the systems-based-curriculum is running smoothly -Lots of patient contact from week one, plenty of standardized patients for practice -We have an amazing class every year that lives the work hard, play harder motto -You can take your exams any time Friday-Sunday, allowing for flexibility in schedule and learning style."
