"The Mechanical Engineering graduate program at the University of Michigan provides a hands-on experience to the students. There are plenty of opportunities available to experiment with one's ideas, with encouragement and support (professionally and personally) extended by the professors at all times. The projects as part of courses are extensive and challenging, making the student learn through the process. The libraries are accessible 24 hours and the added facilities such as Inter Library Loans make it easier for the students to attain required text books. The library also has several hundreds of computers, all loaded with the most updated software and other supportive applications that a student may require. The academic environment is challenging and fun to be in, and it build in the student a passion to excel pushing his/her limits. The major classrooms use video recording technology, which enables the student to follow the lectures after the class hours, to refresh his.her memory, this comes in handy especially before the exams. The labs are very well equipped with the latest technologies, which makes the students aware of the recent advancements in their respective fields. The career center helps the students greatly in finding internships and full time jobs. As a matter of fact, it helped me land an internship in a leading company for this Summer. Overall, it has been a wonderful experience academically and personally. I have one more semester to finish my master's program, and I believe the graduate education at University of Michigan is far beyond regular standards."

"Since this program is constantly changing, some services and resources don't feel like they're at their best. However, because this program is constantly changing, I can advocate and expect for better. Additionally, I have truly enjoyed studying a subject that I connect with and nearly all of my colleagues are fantastic and top of the line."

"The University of Michigan boasts the best School of Social Work in the country. However, the amount of student loans compared the what i will probably be making after i graduate can feel very discouraging at times."

"The University of Michigan has one of the leading graduate programs for architecture in the country. The resources and level of education provided is unmatched, but the price of attendance (especially out-of-state) is steep."

  • Degree: Environmental Science
"My specific program was Environmental Health Sciences at the School of Public Health. Unfortunately, it was not what I expected it to be. The number and quality of professors in my department was lacking considerably. The course requirements were often off topic and not relevant to my interest area. In terms of Ann Arbor, I have lived here for almost 7 years now and it will never get any cheaper. The housing market can be a bit ridiculous. Property management companies often charge outlandish amounts for what you get, and since students have to find a place to live they have no choice. Being in the middle of the road on finances as a family, but very poor personally, it is often difficult to receive anything more than federal loans from the school. Which tends to only make matters worse."

"This is a nationally recognized program that is living up to its reputation. I have friends in other programs and I already see the difference in the type of education offered here. This is a great school. Go Blue!"

  • Degree: Pharmacy
"University of Michigan College of Pharmacy has around 80 people per class, which makes it a smaller community feel at a large public university. The College of Pharmacy building is slightly outdated, but still functional. The quality of instruction is superb, and Ann Arbor is a great place to live."

"I love how supportive our program director is and how he always goes out of his way to help us with our (non)academic matters. Also, being part of this program will allow one to get a head start on doing research on a more professional level and stay connected with experts in the field at an earlier stage. It is also great to interact with other brilliant young scientists who are in this program."

"Like any graduate program in social work, my graduate program had its up's and down's. The major positive of the program is that it is an atmosphere of learning. The concepts and theoretical frameworks we discuss in class give great insight as to what to expect in the profession. As for cons of the program, the administrative component can be difficult to deal with. I found it terribly frustrating to get questions answered about my academic track."

"Unniversity of Michigan's Medical School is currently ranked 8th in the country for medical schools, as of 2012 U.S. News rankings. It provides students with great opportunities for clinical exposure in the "science" years and also various research experiences with some of the nation's best physician scientists. The student social life is terrific with local music shows, every cuisine imaginable and plenty of sporting events. The city of Ann Arbor truly can cater to all types of students."

"The University of Michigan offers a great program for Environmental Policy and Planning. The classes span a range of topics, with students able to choose what courses will be most applicable to their career. The big downside is the cost of attendance for out-of-state students, and the school does not offer sufficient financial aid for graduate students."

"It's one of the top ten pharmacy schools in the nation that employs and educates leaders. There is also an immense network, so that definitely helps students find resources and career opportunities. The only con of this graduate program is that it is expensive, but that is expected with pharmacy schools."
